Can anyone ID this engine?

Found this engine at local shop. I'm thinking its a 2.4 liter from '71-'73 time frame according to internet research. Can any of you experts tell me more about it? Not great pics, but best I could do. The box on top in the second pic is the intake, etc. If its something desirable, I'll go back for a better look. Sorry about the sideways pics, can't get them to rotate.

What say you?

My 1972 911E with MFI had a green shroud. I am pretty sure S was red, T was grey. If you have the engine number this is easy to decode. PS - short of a 72S motor, this might be a pretty special motor. For 1972 Porsche built 8200 T engines, 2000 E engines and 2700 S engines - of course the S is the ultimate to own. T/E/S hp 130/165/190 torque 196/206/216 pretty motivating / impressive for a 1050 kg car. Please post up your serial number, just right of fan.

Fixed

Looks to have hydraulic tensioner upgrade, a good sign. I can't say much more with any certainty.

That looks a lot like my motor, a 1976 CA 5R. Mine has the same green shroud. Check the case number on the right side of the fane, at the back of the base. If it starts with '656' it's from 1976.

Right of center in this picture, below the fan and above the crank pulled you will find type number and serial numbe stamped into the case. I'm going to guess that this is a 2.7. But get those numbers and what it is becomes very easy to determine.

Ok, thanks. Narrows it down a bit. Any idea on value in its current condition? Been sitting for 4-5 years, motor turned over by hand when taken out of car. Looks to need a good once over. Who knows if parts are all there. eBay is not really a good source for pricing, I have observed. Wild swings in perceived values.

green shroud and CIS = 2.7
Note exhaust:double inlet muffler = 1974 911 2.7 unless things been changed.
Value? just parts or rebuild-able core? I would value $500-$1,500. note: hyd. chain tension-er update kit, a +.

Based on the engine shroud and intake runners, i'd say it's a mid-year 2.7 CIS engine. not terribly rare or desirable.....but one of my favorite engines to hot rod. As it has been sitting partially dis-assembled, with the intake ports open I'd consider it a rebuild-able core. I'd value it at $1500-$2500 depending on condition/leak-down test results. Let me know if it comes up for sale.

regards,
al
