Price of real Dino oil doesn't matter as VR1 is 100% synthetic.

VR1 Racing oil is dyno. That be the one to use for flat tappet air cooled engines.

Amazon has 6 quarts for 32.54 shipped, tax in some states (I pay 7.8% in Texas), so $35.08 shipped 2 day free which is $5.85 per quart total.
The right stuff used to be part number VV211 but now it's 822347 VR1™ Racing Oil (VR1™) : Product Catalog - Valvoline®

O'reilly's has it in a 5 quart jug, but no net savings on the product. Same price per quart.

Agree for what Walmart has available. To the best of my knowledge, Walmart does not carry VR1 though. Have you seen different?

Don't recall Morrie, I think their stock varies by store. Most of the Flaps only have my oil by the quart, usually at $7-8. I like the big jugs and at $4.60 a quart a good buy.
They have an aisle for Motorcycle oils too.

I don't mean $4.99 is not a good deal, but Autozone was closer to $4 couple months ago, if I remember right.

Yep. Autozone normal price is $6.19 and they had $2 off a few months ago. The "bobble head" deal.

You're right autozone did have it at 4.19 plus a bobble head-I forgot about that.
And I've never seen a 5 qt jug of VR1 in a store or on their website. If you need some now, it's a good price. If you want to wait for the zone to knock it down again....your call!

I cleaned out 2 oreilys and only got 15 quarts. Autozone matched the prices and got a few more. changed the oil with it and my 911 seems to run so much better.

Not sure why this oil is so popular; turns out that VR1's SG rating (and the lack of the API donut on the container) means it doesn't meet API's current classification guidelines. Actually, the SG rating has been phased out since 1988 and is now considered obsolete. The SN classification—along with SM, SL, and SJ—are considered current. The SG classification is so old that the engine tests for it were retired many years ago. In a nutshell, if the container does not display the API donut, anything could be in the bottle. Gave me pause to say the least when I first came across this info.
Just curious... |
