maybe they reassembled the car prior to painting the exterior? That's my best guess. Nice looking car though.

To spend this kind of time and money then use a photo of a cracked gauge glass on the oil temp/press makes me wonder...

Would like to see it in person but $39k is a bit much...

The cover supplied by the factory, the one over the engine compartment electronics south of the CDI unit...isn't there....also, all 3 fuses shown are blue...(edit) Just clicked on the whole ad...if this car is a '72? Engine surround metal color should be black, with bits of body color showing through. Engine surrounds were black until 1973...want more? would take lots of typing. Bottom line: NOT an original car, nice as it may be...and it does look nice...

I think this is HBrand's place (he posted here for awhile back). They also have been trying to sell this restored SC for some time now...at $24.9K

Spot on...the VIN given is Targa, not coupe...something is fishy here...beyond the pics.

This is wierd, the trunk is green, and it is clearly a targa, but the ad says was converted in 70's or 80's to coupe.

Porsche Crest Cracked Gauges?

Joe:
I thought the same thing about the gauge glass, that it was cracked, but I think what looks like a crack is the reflection of the steering wheel. You can see it run across all the gauges and seems to trace the profile of the steering wheel hub.

I think you guys are misunderstanding the seller. It's a Targa that had the motor converted to RS spec not to a Coupe.

The thing that throws everyone off, including myself at first, was the picture of the Coupe to show buyers what a car in Kelly green will look like when it's finnished. The seller obviously forgot to mention this in the ad. That's the way I see it.

My take is he started with the mechanicals and chassis restoration and he's putting it back together to drive to a paint booth. A little unusual way to do it. I doubt it will be a bare metal repaint. But the engine compartment looks like its fresh.

Does anyone know where I can pick-up one of these covers? After viewing the first picture I realized my car is missing the same thing. Thanks.

Brian,

You see the electronic covers all the time used. Look in the Pelican used parts section and I would contact the salvage yards. Am almost positive that "20th street" salvage here in Phoenix would have one for sale.

I had an e-mail from the owner, they will sell the car then paint it. The picture is just an example of what it will look like?
