225 hp factory engine upgrade?
Hi
I just got my first 911 a 1980 SC targa. It a euro model imported in to US in 1984 with 188 hp originally. In the documentation that followed the car I found a bill of sale from 1984 from the first time it was sold in the US which say the car has a 225 hp factory upgrade. I don't have any official documentation of that and nothing on the POA. Does anybody know of such a factory engine upgrade from 1980? Or is it just a hoax? Porsche did have a 3.1L factory upgrade of the SC, that was produced in very few numbers. I don't know the year, and I don't think it had as much as 225Hp... The last engine upgrade on the SC came with M.Y. 1981, where the standard 3L had 204Hp. In the October 1980 issue of Auto Motor und Sport, the new SC was doing 0-100km/h in 5.9 seconds.

The 3.1 put out a specified 210 HP.
Post your engine serial number and it might give an idea as to what you are looking at. Who annotated the Bill of Sale with the 225 HP. info? A 3.1 with SSI's could easily pull 225...or more. OTOH......

thanks for the feedback. Sounds interesting. I had a short look at the motor in the dark last night and it looked like it has a '3.1' stamp.
But I am not 100% sure and will check again tonight. Exciting :-) |

I believe the '80 Euro 930-09 was 188 hp.
The '81 on Euro 930-10 was 204 hp.

My SC Euro is 204, plus modified cam, plus SSIs, plus lose some weight (leave the GF at home haha haHAHAHA - laughing hard at my own joke, duh ) goes OK. But a 3.1 or 3.2 SS does sound like a whole lot more fun.

I've a 930-10 in a lightened SC and it is a fun early Porsche 'feel' car with better stance. I'd like to have more HP for the street light drags...that would be fun but that's not what the car is about. On a twisty course driving as hard as I can there is still some car left over....iotw, I think we often seek what is already there.

One question. Do you drive the dyno print out or the car?
