Rear sway bar drop link issue

911 SC using Carrera sway's f/r 22/21.
Had a drop link bushing pop out at the top right rear drop link, popped out of the casing and the bushing retained in place by the bolt and steel insert...they were advertised and purchased as 'Lemforder' with the appropriate price and markings.

I was doing some spirited cornering with induced oversteer.

Anyone had that issue?

I used a press to replace it and some steel cup washers now on the outside under the bolt head.

Thought that a strange issue considering that's what they are made for.

I'm running the same sways on my '78 SC and I'm using Tarrett drop links. They have been flawless.

I recommend them, if you want to replace what failed for you.

Yeah, been looking around...Elephant has similar DL's. The original design is ok but.....I suspect I need to replace my banana bushings too.

Elephant links

I went with the Elephant links, because of the boots, (and to help support Chuck :-)

My 74 has the Wevo mounts and I updated the rear 18 mm bar to an 85, so the links could be used to dial out preload during corner weighting.

It looks like one could drill another hole in the bar arm to adjust it up a bit. Has anyone done this or had a bar break at the new hole??

sorry for the slight hijack :-)

We have Tarett also. Lots of great reviews on them: Porsche 911 Tarett Engineering Adjustable Drop Link Set

I have a rear sway from an '87. I made my own links using Heim joints.

I drilled another hole in the bar for some adjustment. It has not broken after many years.

I would not recommend it as the amount of adjustment when done is a major change, causing much more over steer.

I had the same thing happen to my Lemforder rear sway bar end links within 3 months last year. Replaced them with the proper Porsche ones(which are a much sturdier design) and haven't looked back since.

Complete junk imo.

Thanks for the advice,

I am about to reassemble the front end with bigger front torsion bars, (21mm, which is about 50-60% stiffer). The rear is slated for a bit less torsion bar increase, (27 mm?),, so that I could use the adjustability of the rear 18 mm bar to dial in a more neutral balance. The front is the Carrera 20 mm non adjustable bar, so unless I go through the body with a Smart or Tarret bar, I am stuck.

Thanks,
chris

We've raced and street driven on the Tarett drop links for several years, on several cars, and never had a problem. The joints Tarett uses are really high quality and oversized, so no worries about them failing.

So I got the Lemforder links, WHAT AN EXTREME POS!

Driver-side popped out at top, 4 days later, normal street use:

I found some Older Designed links will give them a try:

Not really wanting to add cupped washers, No one should not have to do this if it was made correctly, no? How does a thin piece of rubber lip suppose to hold those suckers in? What a Turkey, made in Turkey.
