Upgrading my trombone

For safety reasons I'm planning on upgrading the trombone cooler on my SC. I was going to grab a front mount from ER but realized how much that limits the styling of the car going forward. I was looking at thief fender mounted option but then realize for about half the price I could retrofit a radiator style cooler with new parts. This got me wondering, is the "big mouth" ER unit really worth the extra $500 for a street driven generally stock SC? I will be doing a couple DE events but I'm by far a novice.

consider the factory brass tube unit. i was able to get it in there with no trouble.
the horns did not need to be touched. the bottom mount was welded in and the top mount gets bolted to the back of the headlight bucket

What ambient temps are you dealing with? I drive an '83 SC Euro in Az year round.
That is 110 plus ambient in the summer.
I put a Carrera oil rad unit in place of the trombone (block off/fan) and run 200/205 in the heat of summer...75 mph lengthy trips.
It's all you should need for a 3.0. The fan does the trick in stop/go as I control the on off.

I'm in NJ so not all that hot. I'd probably plan my track events around the seasons too. I'd prefer not to melt while waiting for my run group to line up.

The Carrera cooler would do anything you need in that ao I suspect. I pulled the AC when I got the car and lightened it in other ways too...I don't mind the heat really, hate northern winters tho. 72 sunny today

I'd say no leave it. My trombone never had an issue on my '78 SC even for the 5 years I was in Naples Florida. Then still no issues when returned to New England swapped in a 3.2 and left the original trombone. Even with several DE events never had an issue.
