EPA Wants to prohibit modifying our cars!!

These regulation proposals came to light today by SEMA.

It prohibits modification to vehicle emission equipment and effectively bans all sports car racing, but the regulations also effect street cars and more importantly bans selling of any modifications from manufacturers.

The car and racing community need to act collectively to stop this bull****.

The EPA wants to make it illegal to modify your car for racing

This was said before during the release of OBDII.

I'm not too worried.

This is what Road and Track has to say about this:
No, the EPA Didn't Just Outlaw Your Race Car

Still disturbing because it can lead to all kinds of bad things.

If these *********s get their way we won't have much to talk about anymore. It will become the restoration forum.

Not starting anything.....I hope, but when animal agricultural farming produces more (2-3x) greenhouse gases than all transportation combined, it pisses me off that the EPA focuses on petty issues like engine modifications. I'd rather eat one less steak or burger a week

Would that new EPA rule also apply to emission exempt vehicles, such as my '78 in MA?

OMG, epa has something to say involving cars tracked?

They can suck it. No one in a position of enforcement cares...

Double face palms all around.

This is a big step down the slippery slope of banning home built race cars based on production cars. Reading the Federal Register (https://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2015-07-13/pdf/2015-15500.pdf) indicates that if you use a road car for racing, you have to keep it's emission equipment intact. There is a civil fine of $37,500 for a violation (see page 40720). The lack of current plans to enforce this provision would only take an administrative action to cancel. They go to the tracks in the US, stand at the gate and hand out tickets. They can create a nightmare for the tracks and force them to prevent non-conforming cars to use the track or call them an accessory. Write your congressman. Ask why hobbyist creation of non-road going race cars from production cars needs to be outlawed.
