POR 15 Caliper Paint - Reviews?

Hi guys,

I am currently deep into a suspension & brake overhaul on my 77 911S and I will have to strip and rebuild my calipers. I would like to give them a good protective paint on reassembly and I was wondering if you guys have used this POR15 Caliper paint before. It's an American product, which we can get in the UK & Europe, so I thought I would ask the Pelicans for their opinions.

I have gone through the usual processes of searching this forum and I have found some good threads and advice already, however, I have not seen any mention of this particular product. I would rather order something that you guys can recommend from experience.

BTW, This job started as 'just' a suspension bushing overhaul, but my god there are a hell of a lot of 'whilst I'm in there' jobs cropping up!

Cheers,
Jason.

POR15 breaks down in direct sunlight so needs a top cover of some type. Base coat and top coat.

We use a painted hard-bake finished process, sorry we have never had or seen anyone use POR-15

POR15 Caliper paint is a completely separate product specifically for calipers and not the product used for rust control. I have not used it, but here it is:

CALIPER PAINT - 8 OZ.

Well I'll be hornswoggled....I've had good results with their other products...worth a try if it sticks like POR 15

So what color? I've been thinking of painting the calipers on my SC, and I think black is probably best on the stock calipers.

I have used it and it works great. I did mine in black. I really didn't want them to be any color other than their natural finish but my hawk DT-10s are harsh on everything in the wheel well. It seemed like painting would help keep race pad gunk from building up on calipers. IMO it does.

BTW - I have read that POR15 is nothing special and that other's sell similar for less. However I can tell you I have never had a bad result with any POR15 product I have used over the last ~ probably 20 years

Great stuff.

Thanks for the feedback fellas. I would have preferred to do them in either the gold/zinc colour but I can only find POR 15 in black, red or silver. Will probably go for the silver.

Loving the 'all red' calipers............and discs, bolts lines etc!

The nice thing about painting your calipers is if you don't like what you get, you can change it easily. The job is easy and fast. A bit of masking tape and a towel or two to cover things up will get you a fine result. This also argues for using any paint you want. Any rattle can will give you a year or two of very good service. If it fails at that point, do it again. Whether or not the paint fails after a year, the caliper will be filthy and will benefit from cleaning and respray anyway.
Ignore all this if your car is headed to Pebble Beach for the concours.
