Pelican Ignore List.

Now here's is a little gem.

I think the blocker simply does not see what the blockee has posted to any given thread.

The ignorelist function comes standard with vbulletin which is the website builder that Pelican Parts have used.

On this website we get along better than any other large forum I've ever come across, so I don't think it gets used too much.

It gets used by some in the Off-Topic Political and Religious forum, PARF, rhymes with barf.

Lol jj. Yeah, good folks on here. A few troll types, but they are a small minority. The mazdadpeed forum is a bunch of knuckle heads. Forums for older cars tend to have a more mature, friendly, and knowledgable crowd. Less bros.

It's the same on all Subaru forums I've ever been on. A bunch of little smug douchebag know-it-alls. Everyone is a critic.

Hang out for a while on VWVortex. Vile environment.

The only other car forum I've been part of that was as civil as Pelican was classiczcars.com

ive been on pelican for a number of years and it has set the bar very high when it come to knowledge base. I have looked for other forums for my trucks, cars and supermoto bike and am always disappointed in the environments, culture and lack of actual experienced knowledge.

having recently sold my aircooled car I have been frequenting RL more and have found that there are a number of toxic members there that will really drag a thread away from any useful information. just over a month in im already aware of a 1/2 dozen "contributors" that I don't even bother reading their trash. kinda like me here eh?

My experience with PCar owners, they often fall into 2 groups, owners that pay to have all the work done by pros, these owners don't really need the forum. Then you have those that work on the cars usually these are very knowledgeable folks or very smart folks that want to learn and listen carefully. Then you have the passion that goes with these cars and people just tend to get along. Many other brands of autos don't have such loyalty to the brand, they switch cars quickly and this leaves a knowledge void in the industry. What amazes me about PCars is how you don't often find a overall expert, what you find is experts in a particular skill and these experts tend to know everything about that component or skill set.

Your insight about brand loyalty and knowledge base is very accurate and profound. I think another contributing factor is the 911 itself, which is a gem of a car that benefitted from both fanatical dedication to engineering concepts such as form vs function, longevity of the components, and uncompromising quality, not to mention the long production run that these cars have enjoyed. It's the car itself that has resulted in bringing people together.

I've always called that signal to noise ratio, Toby. Recently a number of 996T members from 6spd have migrated to RL and polluted the forum. Also be sure to read the 996 GT3 forum regularly. A lot of things about your car are the same or very similar and very few useless posters there.

I find the timing of this thread ironic. Just an hour ago I told a member to ignore me. He's started stalking me after I made a snarky post last month that out his panties in a bunch. Now if he reads a post from me he has a compulsive need to reply and start stuff. His blood pressure would go down if he would just ignore me.

I've got a few guys on ignore. They attack others when they disagree and generally ruin the forum. I like this feature.

rusnak nailed it - the civility on this 'board is a direct reflection of the car itself. I get the same in Brit-Iron or slash2 listservs where the breed is well-documented and few will off-topic.

I had no idea that the two were mutually exclusive. Recognizing the the forum is a cesspool and playing in it anyway seems reasonable to anyone who's ever posted on the internet before.
