1980-85 Seat questions
Hi Gang
I have an 85 911. It's in another country right now so I can't just look at it. 1) does the seat belt receptacle attach to the seat rail or the seat itself? I'm considering a seat from a G50 car (seatbelt receptacle attaches to body on those, not the seat unit) and wonder if swapping the rails from mine will be a simple way to do this or does the receptacle somehow need to bolt to the seat itself. 2) Does the bottom cushion of a manual seat sit the same height as a seat with motors? Thanks |

Are the seats Sport seat?
The seat belt clips into a stalk that bolts to the floor. I would not really get excited about buying a set of used seats unless they were manual factory sport seats. You'll sit much lower in sport seats, but the advantage is that you will feel much more feedback from the car, and the sensation of the car's handing will be much more direct. |

I don't have your answer but I will mention that when I installed 964 seats in my '74, the receptacle was part of the seat (not the rail). One thing to mention, my original belts did not fit the new receptacles and I also had to buy 964 belts (the buckle part was slightly different.
Porsche PET Catalog has a whole catalog on seats (85+cars). Below is the link: http://www.porsche.com/all/media/pdf/originalparts/usa/STZ_USA_KATALOG.pdf |

Rusnak - I'm pretty sure the stalk only is floor mounted 86 and onwards - I had an 86 and it made swapping seats real easy.
And yup -- it's a set of RHD sport seats from the UK so the driver's side here in NAmerica would be fully manual. My passenger would get the 4 way. So that's lower and more direct you say? |

+1 on floor.
+1 Sport seats sit lower but I have power that can raise it if needed. not sure about the manual seat height.

Change in the seats was 1985, giving buyers power options. There was no power before that in the seats.
The seat belts attached to center tunnel through 1984. Attached to seat from 1985. The seat attached with 6mm bolts through 84. 85 on the seat bases are solid welded boxes attached by 2 8mm bolts on all 4 corners of the seat. In 85 MY the seat belts attach to the seats. Bruce |

Thanks Guys -- I have the seller sending me pics of the inboard sides to see --
I don't just want the sport bolstering also but an equal or lower height seat so anything that needs an added seat belt receptacle eyelet -- like a Brey Krause - is not gonna work |

I've owned two '86's and now an '88 G50. The seat belt receptacle is attached to the seat on all of them.

86 here and they are on the seat rail as they were in 85. Not sure what another poster had but all 86 911's had them mounted to the rails.
