Question Weber Air Filters

Once again I have found the archives to be very rich in information.

This post in no way should rekindle the tired K&N air filter debate! I am just looking for air filter options for my Weber topped motor.

Presently I am running K&Ns with watershields. I have gathered that ITG filters ( can get them from http://www.twminduction.com/ ) are a good option.

Also, I guess one could use the factory Weber air filter set-up.

I also read in the archives that someone was running individual K&N cones for each stack - I'd be interested in what that set-up entails.

I have also seen folks running open stacks and stacks with a single sheet of some type of mesh over them.

What other options are "out there"? Anything else I should consider for free flow and clean air for my motor?

TIA!

Best to all,

Kurt

I have also considered my options. I kinda have bigger fish to fry than how pretty the top of my engine looks at the moment ... but still thinking and planning - I want to do it one day.

I swapped a few emails with Jack McAllister (Hatari). He has both the K&N with watershields and the individuals and swaps between them.

He told me the individual K&Ns were clamped onto cut down Weber flanges, and that they sound awesome.

Also, ITG have a website at www.itgairfilters.com. They indicated to me that the oil impregnation would mean that the filters getting wet wouldn't be too big a problem... I am not so sure (yes, of course I drive in the rain).

I'd suggest running air filters with your induction system, even keep the K&N's if you have to. The "race car", open-throat look is okay when you're replacing pistons and cylinders on a regular basis, otherwise it's a good way to increase piston-to-bore clearance on a gradual basis. Mesh keeps out the rocks, leaves and large bugs, not much else.

The ITG foam filter assemblies are a good choice. Not aware of ITG's at the time, I fabricated some Amsoil foam filtering material and adapted it to some early "K&N" type filter housings.

if you have gotten rid of your stock air cleaner housing; let me ask you where you route the oil breather hose that comes off the filler neck?

The oil breather hose, you connect it to this plastic jar at the back of engine compartment, you really don't need it. And besides, "as for thereon" you cannot overfill the engine and the "extra" oil goes into this jar.
