Proper (best) tool for pulling door panels
I went shopping for door panel removal tools and was astonished by the choices. Some look like little shovels, some look like little forks of various widths, some look like little trowels. It was kind of mind boggling. What's the best configuration for pulling panels from a '73 911T?

I have this set, but for my 3.2 it really does not need it, just grab and gently pull.

Yeah it's pretty easy once you get all the screws out. There's only 3-4 plastic clips on the front and back ends and they don't hold that well to begin with.

There's no better tool than your fingers. Just pull gently.

Once you remove all the screws the door panel is basically off. Just pull outward and you are golden.

If you use your hands, and if the panel has seen some moisture damage or if it is removed enough times, sooner or later you'll pull one of the plastic fasteners out of the panel and damage the panel.
Get a plastic panel clip in your hands and buy a tool that fits it tightly and has the largest area. Insert it so that you capture the fastener, then use something else to pry between the door sheet metal and the clip tool. That allows the clip tool to spread the load better, and if you get the right sized tool it will push on the plastic, not the panel. JR |
