Electromotive Tec 1 upgrading?

My car came with an Electromotive Tec 1 system installed which is currently only acting as ignition timing for a twin plug set up. There's miles of grey data cable that are kinda ugly, I'm not sure if upgrading to a newer Electromotive product would be worth it and if I'm able to utilize some of the parts I currently have. I've seen used kits for sale that look attractive price wise. I'm just not sure if I should upgrade to a newer system in preparation for EFI in the future or look at a different system if upgrading isn't possible. I don't think I want to pay full retail for a brand new Electromotive EMS if there are little benefits. Has anyone here updated their Outdated Tec 1 or 2 systems and can share some insight?

Tec 1 is pretty old. Upgrading system might include having to retune new system. Could get expensive. I say if it works leave it alone.

^^that looks amazing! I know very little about auto electronics I think that would take me a while to sort out that well! I think I recall seeing this previously, you must have posted about it before so I'll search your posts.

Thanks.

Chris,

That was a winter project the following year that I installed the TECgt. I got the idea from Trog: My PMO ITB Project

Do an Advance Search using PMO or ELECTROMOTIVE in title and you'll get quite a few threads (20/11 pages respectivelly).

mine came with a twin plug, older electromotive crank fire. don't recall the version.

I plan to change to a proper 12 plug distributor and full set of MDS stuff.

two: MSD 6AL's, MSD BTM and High-vibration blaster coils and the JB racing twin plug dist.

will be having Timmy2 rebuild my engine bay and engine wiring harnesses. they were damaged by exhaust heat when the muffler case cracked.

planning to mount it all in the interior. at this point no idea what it will end up looking like.

Twin plug ignition

I have the Electromotive XDi ignition on my 3.3SS twin plug engine. Works great with a minimum of wiring. Cost was around $1300 but it really cleans up the engine compartment and I won't have to buy an expensive distributor cap or rotor in the future. I have the timing control box mounted in the cabin up against the vertical area just below the rear seats. Keeps it away from engine heat and makes it possible to easily make timing changes if needed. After I finished the install, I sold the original distributor, coil, MSD cdi and plug wires to help offset the cost of the XDi system.
