Lets play, whats your tire pressure!

As a rule of thumb I usually set my tire pressures at 29 fronts and 34 rears for strret and canyon driving. my cars is corner balanced and feels neutral most of the time. The front of the car is 1,025 lbs and the rear is 1,613 lbs.

I just swapped out my worn Kuhmo Ecsta MX tires to Dunlop Direzza V2's and I'm looking forward to a possible performance improvement. Also, I understand that tire pressures may need to be adjusted based on driving style.

If anyone has a good tire pressure improvment that could be made, I would like to hear what you suggest.

Just as a note - skid pad instructors, this past weekend, said car was nicely setup. Just sayin' since I have no other frame of reference.
BTW, how did you like you Kuomos?

Make sure you use the same gauge all the time. Tire gauges are wildly inaccurate. That's no be deal you stick to the same one all the time. More than you need to know about the gauges.

Tire pressures.

I top off all four @ about 32F & 38R.

Drive the care home, park it overnight.

then bleed the air down to:

29F & 36R.

28F & 33R might reduce center wear......

The tires are Pirelli:
PZER0P205/55ZR16 F
PZERO225/50ZR16 R

Street use only.

So PAG spec is 29/36. Are we saying it depends on brand/type of tires to determine pressure?

I know on the track, I lower it but for street I go to recommend PAG spec.

My MBZ wrench told me that MBZ spec is way too low so he filled it to 40 lbs, well a couple months later tires were bald in the center. WTF???

The Kuhmo's were a great tire. They lasted about 10,000 miles of aggressive and street miles.
They were worn down to the wear bars. Flat across wear mostly for the rears and perfect front wear showing just enough negative camber. Some complain that they have soft sidewalls but they worked for me and proved what a set of sticky tires can do for performance.
I thought I would see quite a difference in pressures from everyone. Some 32 psi rear guys and some up to 40 psi rear guys and some between.

One more thing, I think the construction/type and make of the tire may affect what air pressure is best, so I was not sure with the Dunlops. Craig D, Glad you like them! Your car looks similar to mine too.

I'm fortunate enough to have a handful of SCCA national level guys in my region and over the years I've picked up a lot on their techniques. One of these guys now has an 85 and he told me a bit back that these cars really prefer a 3 lbs difference front to rear. Interesting that a lot of the posts here reflect that 3 lbs difference.

I have Direzzas Z2 and I run primarily run 29/32 on spring day conditions but tire pressure depends on many factors and has to go up an down based on what you need for the circuit and the weather.
