Talking check out what audio i just bought for my 911

JL audio 500/5
does 100x2, 25x2, and 250x1 and has a killer crossover network i figure if i'm keeping my carrera i want it to sound better than before, and with me pulling my a/c i can finally utilize the smugglers box for my sub setup
expect a durable/functional custom install by spring.
wow this is going to be cool, my doing this stuff everyday for work limits my "motivation" to have my own install sweet, they've always been utilitarian but now i get to have a little fun.

Holy S#$t!

That's a huge amperage draw! I was checking that thing out the other day at Car Toys 4GA min. wire size?!...Nice though.

It's funny how you mention when your hobby becomes your job, your personal stuff slacks off - when I was installing, I couldn't muster enough energy after work to finish my own cars. It always smelled of uncovered particle board and there were installer droppings ( discarded wire sheath, used crimps, etc.. ) all over the place. I did muster enough energy the other day to install a pair of Quart co-ax's and an MTX 6304. Got a Rod Birch piece (bought used) coming in Monday. I just wanted something simple that could be hidden. Wish I had the space for your power instead.

Ron's going to be more than interested...please keep the posts coming as the install goes along. Me? I like my single speaker am/fm...sorta.. I mean, what thief would want to steal it? This is almost as good as a "no radio" sign...

so far i plan on using the following since i already have it all......
blaupunkt toronto
blau 10 disc (don't know where it's going yet)
JL 500/5 amp
crossfire 6.5 components( will be replaced by quarts soon)
audio control "overdrive" line driver
audio control eql
crossfire bmf 10 (bmf stands for big mo*%er f*&^%r)

as far as thieves go.......if you don't advertise you have it near your destination then theft possibilities decrease severely, i've had the toronto in there for a year with no problems...........besides that's why i pay insurance to cover such items

i'm aware of the amperage draw, it will only peak at 50 amps draw if i'm really jamming, average draw will be about 25-30 amps which is no more than big driving lights. i'll have the alternator out in a couple of weeks and am going to have anything replaced that's needed.
i'll be posting all progress in this other thread bells official winter project thread.....

i'll have a better sub setup under the front hood, and with the equalization/crossover capacilities i have, the stage sould be no problem, if i need to "gary" should still have some more phase shifters.

each speaker will be on it's own channel, 5 total, i have a "homemade" piece i made to adjust each preamp signal individually since the 500/5 will only adjust gain by the pair. and i forgot to mention that i have 2 EQL's if i neeed to use both.
this is going to be a fun one, and my goal is to have a stellar soundstage (as stellar as a 911 can get )

CONFIRMED .. the hours were so few that I distinctly remember you saying that outside by the garage..and new SSI, single 4in. Monty and exotic EGT/CHT,etc system is in motion as I write this.. and tearing into the audio will be the desert on that job... that's step 1 on making the 911 worthy for a real ride again.. a zip to Akron or Virginia for entertainment before completion is no big deal, that's for sure.. as soon as windshield[also in motion is same glass as brothers '88 /all around] and new sneakers it rolls...........Ron

i saw a mention of hershey in april in another thread, maybee we could all meet up for the weekend there
i started removing my a/c system this morning, so the ball is rolling on that too.
my amp won't be here for a couple of weeks but it's paid for (through our dealer accomidation program), i think i may be able to squeeze it along the front wall of the hood in front of the spare tire, that'll be nice to keep the weight as far forward as possible (i think it weighs a little less than 15 lbs).
the sub will be firing into the trunk via a rebuilt smugglers box door and i think the eql/other electronics will end up under the passenger seat keeping everything very stealth.

I spent just over $3k on a sound system for my 911. The sound is incredable but one thing I haven't figured out yet is to how to listen to tunes and the sound of the car at the same time. Because the sound of the car is like music. The thing is with the sound of the car there are no commercials and the cd doesn't stop.

i also want to note that i'm the type who will mainly listen to my systems capabilities when stopped or on hour+ trips, it IS a 911 after all and the best audio comes from the rear, that is one thing i have learned alreay

hey Tom.. what I do is spend 60 hours a week driving at 3.2k - 3.8k w/sport exhaust noise and switch on/off 105db audio.. depends on my mood.. I do this for weeks, and weeks, and weeks at a time.. try it, no kidding.. it really eliminates all your concerns.. true story................Ron
