Both my turn signal lights come on please help

Hello
I've just noticed on my 1971 that whenever I actuate the turn signal on any direction it blimps twice on the correct side and then starts to blimp on both sides just like the hazard lights.
The column switch is new and there seems to be nothing wrong with it, did I wire a ground wrong? Has this ever happened to anyone? Please help.
Thank you
MD

Look at the directional lights from outside the car ... I found that one bulb was out when I had the same problem.

Often you can tap an indicator lens to get everything back to working. Next step is to take the lens off and manually move the bulbs to see what happens. Did you replace the stalk for any particular reason?

When I first bought my car part of baselining it was to replace all fuses and bulbs with OEM or equiv. from the same manufacturer/part run. Of course new bulbs in old sockets were a pain, and I learned to leave well enough alone when they would inexplicably go Lucas on me.

I had something similar long time ago.
It was a one contact bulb in a two contact socket on the rear.

Usually this indicates an issue with one of the bulbs...domestic cars will do similar things when a bulb is out.

Also check the earth to all the lamp housings, especially if the lamps are flashing at less than normal brightness.
