2.2 engine, good running condition- What's it worth?
Hello,
I have a 2.2 from a 911T with Webers in good running condition. I am pulling the engine to rebuild trans and clutch and have been considering a swap to a 3.2. I am curious about the value of this engine, as this will help me determine if I can swing the swap in the first place. details: 2.2 911T milage: unknown Engine# 6108941 Weber 40 IDA's recent valve job valve and chain case covers plained flat Turbo lowers rebuilt chain tensioners MSD ignition Headers are good, heat exchangers have holes old RSR style muffler front main seal leaks, will be addressed when engine is out. Compression: PSI- cold engine 1- 122 2- 130 3- 125 4- 120 5- 122 6- 131 Variance % 8.9 Thanks, Chris Last edited by charwood77; 04-11-2016 at 07:39 AM.. |

Looks like a decent engine.
Is it the matching engine for the car? If so its not worth as much as you would loose if you ever sold your car! I would guess $5-7k. Not many want a 2.2T engine.

IMHO- If you have a numbers matching stock T you would be insane to sell the original drive train. Store it away properly (oil in cyls, gas removed, etc.) and then go at the 3.2 upgrade.

What Gary said. I am still kicking myself for having sold the original 2.7 CIS engine when I did the swap. At the time I looked at it as a boat anchor taking up space in the garage. Today number-matching is what drives prices into orbit.....even for a short-hood. Who would have guessed.
On the flip side, soon doing any mods or swaps to any 911 will be labeled insane the way the market is going.

$5k for the engine and $2k for the carb kit. But like others said I wouldn't split it from the chassis. Save up for a swap without selling the engine or rebuild it as a 2.3-2.5l S/E/T spec engine. S pistons. E cams. T heads.

Thanks for all the input.
My cars history is..well.. complicated. Chassis stamp on it is 1970 911T The vin it carries does not match. It was updated to short hood, i brought it back to longhood. Not certain I will ever know its original VIN and I doubt the engine is the matching one. |

Well in that case, game on! My 74 is a theft recovery S title car with a 3.2 in it. It's a hoot and I will never worry about what it's worth.

yeah, that's how I see it. I wish I could find a way to determine my cars original vin and try to correct it, but I guess that's not possible.

There are clues.
Start another thread. Vin is in several places in the car, some hidden.

Thanks again BK911. I've done the reading on the subject.
My vin boss panel near smugglers box is blank, i looked at the rear with a mirror in hopes to see a negative relief but it was blank as well. I could see weld marks from on either end of that span which tells me they removed it and replaced it with a blank. vin was also removed from a pillar. only original marking i have is the chassis production number. |
