930 brake conversion - low pad warning question

ok, a question for you guys who have done the swap.

what do you do with the cables for the low (thin) pad warning? do you use turbo ones, or none at all, or the ones already on the car?

i've sourced all the parts i need for the caliper rebuild and they have these cables as well. btw - they have pistons for $40 ea. so i'll replace the damaged ones.

What kind of car do you have? We need to know if your trying to make them work or just trying figure out how to not make them work..

I would'nt worry about the sensors. They are meant for the guy that doesn't know or care about maintenance as a signal to take them to the garage. A quick glance is all you need and with your car and the size brakes you have on it, you will most likely need pads changed very infrequently.

if its just a matter of buying ther correct cables i'll do it, but if its gonna be hassle, forget it!!

I don't know why you can't use the ones you have assuming they will fit into the slots on the turbo brake pads. The sensors all work the same way.

I have just spoken to Classic Car about geting Turbo 3.3 calipers rebuilt. They are not quoting at the moment because of the problem of getting hold of the pistons (they have to come direct from Porsche).

He told me that they are aluminium with a teflon type coating.
I have also sent him some early 917 calipers (38 mm pistons) to rebuild and he quoted £125 each, with new pistons, pipes and nipples.

Rivervale Porsche quoted me £25.42 for each piston, £2.26 and £12.99 for each seal. These parts are not held in the UK.

thats a great price, and i'd go for it if i didn't already have the seals. its going to cost me more tha that to do it myself.

i think i'm going to do all the pistons as well.

may i'll get them to do the rears at a later date.

anyone know about these pad sensor cables??

I don't know about the brake sensor wires. If it were me I would just tiewrap them to the struts and forget about them. If you did that the brake warning light might light up. I worked on an S2 that a well know "pro mechanic" worked on and he just cut the wires and the car had a weird brake warning light problem.

If you tie wrap them, the brake warning light WILL NOT come on.

On my 964RS, not sure if your Carrera is the same, the warning light comes on when the sensor is worn away and the wire gets broken - it's just one continuous piece where it goes onto the pad. In this case if you just cut the wire your warning light will come on. I just cut the wires back and then joined the two ends together and tied them up out of the way.

those prices were for 917 calipers, not 930. They couldn't quote me on those till January.

Seems crazy but they said 917 were easier and cheaper than 930

"we would rather do 10 917 calipers than one 930"

ah sorry, thats me going off on a tangent

that makes me feel slightly easier with those prices. funny thing - the connecting lines that join the two halves are £35 plus vat! each.

the 930's aren't that bad to work on though!

they have told me they have to order the parts from germany, and i won't get them until mid jan.

perhaps i'll go ahead with it in the morning.

When I did the brakes on my 86 930 I just re used them no problem they cliped right in
