And if you keep the throttle partially open you may cause the idle switch to be permanently "off"

Also a good point. Without the idle circuit operating, it's more like you're squeezing a bit of throttle to maintain the idle speed.

You guys definetely sound like you know your ****! So now my question is this: I really like the way the car is driving after this adjustment, other people who have driven it agree. Am I in danger of messing something up by leaving it with NO slack, should I put it back the way it was? What are the ramifications of the idle switch being "open" given the position of the throttle? Basically, I feel like an idiot right now, but Adam Nitti's car runs better after adjusting this screw as well. It's not just "a little" better- it's a "HUGE DIFFERENCE"! And the idle speed is steady at approx. 850RPM and returns to idle quickly at any RPM while shifting. What do I do?

I think the result of having the throttle partially open would be a decrease in fuel mileage if spend most of your time in stop-and-go traffic (idling).

Haven't tried to adjust the idle on mine as it holds a nice solid idle just below 800 rpms when warm. I know the procedure was just covered in Excellence or Panorama recently and the Bentley covers it as well.

John Walker is the 911 service guru so he'd know the procedure for sure. I'm positive he posted it not too long ago (maybe a month).

Yes, I read J.W's post about idle speed adjustment and I did that as well. That cleaned up my idle and the rpms below 4000 are smoother. The engine sounds quieter after adjsuting the idle speed.

Oh, look at that....it's time for me to change my ID! LOL! I'm a classic idiot-and to think I've been a professional technician for over 10 years! The truth is, I saw the cable loose, started tightening up on the screw and the throttle started to move and rev the engine. In a blink, I said, " damn, my accel. cable must have been stretched over 16 years of life!" Got in the car and drove-instant throttle response! Now obviously I didn't adjust the accel. cable. What I think happened is the cruise cable is "helping" the throttle out by acting like I have my foot "resting" on the gas pedal when I actually don't. So when I hit the gas, even slightly, the throttle is ready to go-no lag time if you will. Once I figured out it was the cruise control cable I took it for a drive to test out the cruise control...........LOL!!!!!!..........this thing SCREAMS!!! I now have the quickest accelerating cruise control in the world!!! It's hilarious! When you go to set it, it literally floors the gas pedal and gets you up to the desired speed faster than you can say "Bye Bye Bin Ladin!" But thanks for pointing out my imbacilism!

The throttle "cable" is more like a thick (clothes hanger type) wire that
attaches to the bottom of the throttle lever. See "A"

Are you talking about a black plastic cable that goes to the throttle lever
and loops around towards the back of the car and then goes left and
forward? That's the cruise control cable. It goes through bracket "B"

Nobody has to know...
