Battery size and mounting- pictures please
I've been looking for an alternative battery and mount , I see rennline do an aluminium cradle.
My cables are very tight with the inner wing, My thinking was a smaller battery centred in the original tray, maybe on a mount. Let's see some pictures of what options there is? Thanks |

I did this with an Optima - pictures aren't mine.
Optima power! I also upgraded the ground for more slack. Do a search, some have mounted one in the smugglers box - some assembly required.

I run an optima red-top. Have for years.
Purchased the Optima mounting plate sold on this site. That's what it sits on, secured by the stock mounting tabs. Do a search - I seem to remember someone building a mount out of a plastic cutting board, so they could use the stock mounting tabs. Edit: yeah - it's currently 5 threads below - another battery install thread

you can go to tap plastics or the like and get a base the size of the OE battery mount tabs out of a material like the plastic cutting boards. a 1/2" should suffice. then mount your yellow or red top type battery to it, then it to the OE mounting tabs. done, $30 max with the assorted hardware to mount the battery.

For Canadian folks, turns out Canadian Tire has lots of Powersports AGM batteries... all their Motormaster house brand, but the prices were good, and they were compact. Very compact. Holy crap these things are shockingly small. My original battery that left me stranded on track could probably fit five of these little bad boys inside. I could not find great specs on my battery, but it is a Morotmaster Eliminator Ultra AGM Powersports Battery. Size 20L-BS, model number 027-1037. 12V, 18 Ah capacity (10hr), 270 cold cranking amps (0 degrees C), and it feels to be around 15 lbs.
Cutting board modified for the smaller battery. I know this is a bit ghetto, but it has not moved a bit, and the thing had run like a top. Just note that these small batteries need frequent use, or to be put on a trickle charger. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Saves about 30lbs!!!

that cargo ratchet is ridiculous. Why don't you get get a plastic buckle that snaps together? I got one on eBay for a few bucks and some webbing.
That way it does not look like a tie down in the back of a pickup.

What's wrong with the pick up look Dick? Some of us use them as daily drivers.

I did a similar thing with a Duracell powersports battery I got from Batteries plus, thread is here.
Yet another early car battery option - Duracell? Instead of the big ratchet tie-down, I went slightly less shade-tree with zip ties.

Where did you source the correct green webbing? I used zip ties because I couldn't find yellow zinc plated bungie hooks.

Shockingly small to say the least! - Why there's more terminal post than battery -pretty neat.
What kind of cheese?

P.s.: people, please stop ****ing messaging me with low ball offers for my historically significant battery ratchet with green webbing. No tire kicking. This is true history, and I will entertain serious buyers only.

Just think, G.S., if you ever need to lift the front of your car with an engine hoist, you can just hook on to that motorcycle tie down strap (probably need to counterweight the other side of the car for leveling purposes, buttofcourse)!

My question is why are motorcycle owners usin vintage 911 rs battery ratchets??? Don't they know how expensive/valuable/rare they are?

RS correct Green strapping or not.....shouldn't it be installed the other direction to move the batter weight as far forward as possible for better handling?

Yes, but what about polar moment of inertia? It is a trade-off. In the end i stuck with Ferry Porsche and kept things in the stock location (and stock cutting board for mounting) used in the 3 time class winning Rs. In reality, having the ratchet pointed in the other direction would be more ideal than my current setup as the buckle is asymmetrical in shape, thus effecting corner balancing in a negative way. It may not seem like much, but it all adds up. That is why the fuchs cap logos need to be lined up... If they are not you can actually throw off wheel balance from right to left due to weight differences from the engraving. The spinning action actually accentuates the imbalance and there have been a few reports of fuchs wheels falling off at speed due to the phenomenon. do a forum search on the topic... it is pretty scary. The concourse guys had it right. This is why bmw opted for a symmetrical logo... Problem solved!!!
