Mildly OT: collecting tiny Porsches
I can't have the ones I want. I'll settle for tiny ones strewn all over my office (looks like my bedroom did at 12 at the moment).
I'm looking at a place www.littlecar.com They have lots of very small diecast cars, but I just don't know anything about the make or quality of some of these. I'm just shooting this out there in case anyone knows. Frankly, i'd rather find a local store, but it appears as though the older ones will have to be gotten over the 'net. Hi Kurt
If you are going to collect model Porsches, you first have to decide on a scale. Most serious collectors go for the 1:43 scale (small, but with very good detail). 1:18 and 1:24 scale will fill up your room very quickly, and 1:87 is simply too small. Regarding the quality of the models (1:43 scale): Minichamps (Paul's Model Art) : the king, way best of all, big selection of Porsches Vitesse : nearly as good as Minichamps Schuco: reasonable, scale sometimes slightly too large Schuco junior line : nearly reasonable, but cheap Quartzo : reasonable Brumm : reasonable-ish, expensive, some interesting older Porsches NZG : reasonable-ish, fine detail too crude Bburago : rubbish 914's are hard to come by and trade for good money. Minichamps have recently re-released a 1:43 model of the 2.0 914. Ask a dealer to order you one. Bidding for models on e-bay is not always the cheapest way, especially when you are a novice and have add in the postage on top. Beware, once the bug bites, it can become an expensive hobby. Last thing, keep your models behind glass, otherwise they collect dust pretty quick and generally deteriorate. Cheers Stef [This message has been edited by 911racer (edited 10-12-2001).] |

AutoArt makes a few incredible 1:24 Porsche (race) models. I have the 917K 1970 Daytona 24 winning model on my desk here. Fantastic.

kurt, let me know if you ever find a die cast carrera like ours. i've been looking for one for about a year. i can't believe i can't find a metal model of a 3.2.

Thanks Stef, that's the kind of information I was looking for. Will do Adam. I'll let you know what I find. I can see from looking around that this could get expensive, so I'm going to buy carefully!
