after some driving, acc. pedal doesnt return to idle position

UPDATE:

I confirmed that the problem happens when the engine reaches operating temp or a little after.

I worked the manual throttle in the engine compartment after spraying some WD-40 in that area. Didn't fix the problem.

When the engine reached oper. temp. later in the day, I let the car idle high (2K) rpm and manually pulled on the throttle in the engine compartment . The rpms immediately dropped down to 1,000.....same thing by pulling the acc. pedal.

Can I come to the conclusion that the problem is not the pedal assembly? How much am I looking for to remove and replace throttle body in this diagram? I dont want to get hosed at the mechanic. THanks.

I don't think that the cable end in the engine compartment would hold the throttle lever down at the gas pedal. It should just make slack at that end. It seems the issue is at the pedal cluster itself.

Have a friend pull the throttle at the engine while you look at it while inside the car, and see if it pulls the gas pedal down. This will eliminate where to look for the problem.
