Expansion valve.
I have done a search on the forum but but I cannot find much of replacing the expansion valve on a 3.2 car. Is it possible to replace the valve from the smugglers box? I can see it in the box and it is covered with tar. Thank you.

Yes, just make certain you have the proper sized o rings.
Also may want to consider replacing the dryer as well. Pull and hold a vacuum then refill with refrigerant of choice.

Tar is called Prestite tape or something close to that.
Should be available locally at a NAPA store. Might have to wait a day to get it.

Nick,
If you research you might find some valves come with new o-rings, prestite, bulb clip and some installation support. Be cautions on what valve you buy, some are marketing valves that have the sensing bulb tube coming straight up rather than out flat off the top of the valve; the wrong one will make it difficult to close the smuggler's box lid.

I got a roll of the prestite tape locally at an A/C supply house (something that is every 2 blocks here in Houston...). They called it cork tape. Enough on one roll to last 15 cars, about $15.

Be sure you don't infringe on what's-his-names patents

Bob will bring the beer, but use caution when reaching for one if he is nearby when you do (might lose a finger, otherwise)! Are you going to reverse the methane, too?!?!? |

It's worth having a Porsche just for the AC threads. Great entertainment value!
