Drivers window out of the the track again

Ok this is the second time. Window came out of track, I cleaned the track and bottom of window 30 hrs later when I cranked down the window it came out of the track. This time went to Napa and picked up a specific adhesive for roll up windows. Was told be very careful, don't get it on you and it is a forever fix. Been careful rolling up and down and tonight the d**n thing came out of the track again. I'll reference the adhesive when I get home but it was specificlily for this type of issue, yeah right!!!!!!!!!!

Kent... Not sure what config you have. My '80 has the track/receiver with the rubber sleeve. Glass goes in the rubber sleeve and together they go in track. The track is flexible so it can be tightened and opened to loosen the fit. The trick is to jam the glass and rubber deep into the track so the bite of the track is sufficient to retain the glass. To make a sufficient jam, the track has to be supported from below. I use blocks of 2x4s inserted in the door. Track is lowered onto blocks. All contact points are clean. Window inserted into door.... rubber inserted onto glass... jamb glass into track pushing one end down slightly at a time. As this is done, the glass is tuned to fit the roof (I have a Targa.)

The second part of glass staying in the track is the fit of the vertical track. If you have a coupe, I forget exactly how this is adjusted. The point is if there is too much space between the vertical tracks, the window can tilt on the way down and snag. If your window came out of the track while lowering it, this would suggest a high probability of the vertical tracks being too far apart.

This Karl it is a 72 cpe. Will look at it again today. I'm on a trip and currently in Palm Springs. It's hot so I'd like the window down but it's been so windy that just blows sand inside. Old cars just like attention !

Is it popping out of the regulator track or the glass track or the door's rails. Something is twisted up may need to find which one is out of alignment or component that is out of skew.

Pics would help once you are in it.

Will look at in the next hour. Last night when I parked it next to my motor home and rolled the window up it resisted and then when it got it nearly up I could't push the lock down, so something is askew for sure.

Good point JW.

The window mount could be rusted and causing the glass to shift but you put that secret sealant in it should have stayed in place. Mine was so rusted out that it lost it's tensil strength. I ended up using 3M sealant to keep my glass in place, hope the glass never shatters or it will be a joy to clean up

Can relate to rusted out bottom track Brother Jim. They do indeed reach a point of zero rigidity. So bad in my case, I replaced them... and coated track's inside bottom before reinstall. The way those things are designed... they're made to capture water and rot out.

John Walker
I went to NAPA looking for that number you sent and they didn't recognize it and sold me this other adhesive that specifically said it was for window channel. Well after 44 years it is just going to be cantankerous . When I get home from RGRUPPE Palm Springs Tuesday I'll have to take it apart again.

Similar to John but I just put some Araldite type glue in there. Works well - ah, the luxury of a window that goes up and down LOL
