Plot thickens: not exactly a matching numbers car

I was messing about under the hood today on my 83 targa and noticed something odd. My dizzy turned clockwise whwn I turned the motor over. That's not right I thought.

The motor has always pulled Strong and leaked oil. One mechanic informed me it pulls better than most and has a few upgrades done like turbo valve covers and carrera tensioners.

Some after double checking that I wasn't crazy and the dizzy was spinning cw I looked at the numbers next to the alternator.
*6770540*

So that's a 77 930 motor right?
Anything else I should look for?
Because it runs strong I assume I don't have low compression turbo pistons. Fair to say?

Yep. All the CIS stuff looks like 83 3.0 equipment. The PO must have swapped all of it over....

May have later year heads, perhaps just the short block was changed out?
Interesting to say the least.

Is there a way to tell what barrels or heads I have visually?

What he said ^^

I must agree with Dennis since the 1983 CIS equipment would not fit on a 1977 motor, right?

The heads must be from the 1981-1983 motor for all the stuff to work right IMHO, but I am NO expert.

The 1977 engine case is Magnesium alloy if I remember correctly with the 1978 and newer 911SCs having an Aluminum engine case.

Post a couple pictures of the engine bay and the underside of the engine, which will help the experts here help you identify what you actually have. Unless of course you plan on rebuilding the engine, that way you will know for sure when the parts are all removed and examined.
Just my .02 cents.

Yes, but IMHO...the engine would need to come out and be taken apart to tell for sure.

The 75 to 77 turbo and Carrera 3.0 is an aluminum case using a 2.7 crankshaft, six bolt flywheel. The heads will have casting dates on the top inside. Weather the heads are turbo or NA, the injection, CIS will bolt right to it. All 3.0 heads will fit, including turbo.
Any of the 3.0 P/Cs will fit.
It is the highly desirable 3.0 case that can be destroked to include the 2,0/2.2 crank

Couple of questions. Not too familiar with the lingo yet. What does "3.0 P/Cs" mean?

is the case desirable because you can destroke it or for other reasons? Thanks in advance for the explanation.
