Main Pulley Bolt Removal

The engine is out of the car with the transmission attached. I have tried to remove this nut with a 1/2 drive impact wrench without success. Also tried a breaker bar with a strap wrench around the pulley - no good either.

Any options other than removing the transmission and locking down the flywheel.

Thanks,

Unfortunately it's electric. My air compressor isn't large enough to handle an air wrench.

Heat the bolt hot enough to melt the loctite, then hit it with impact.

Walt:

Does your car have A/C ? Because if it does, that bolt is torqued at around 150 ft lbs.

Good luck

He was trying to not remove the transmission so ....
My trusty Ingersol Rand 1/2 impact wrench at 125 psi has never let me down.
Short of that, I think remove the starter and jam something into the gear. Although, I don't think it works as well as removing the gear box. It is really not that hard.

Between the time of trying two different techniques, posting here and waiting for an answer, you could have pulled the tranny, locked the flywheel with a short wrench, cracked the bold loose and put the tranny back on...

Just sayin...

Since the tranny is still mounted, is the starter there as well? Put breaker bar on bolt, prop end of breaker bar against floor, bump starter with jumper cables to battery for 1 second.

I think this is dangerous ...
I had a very close call last week. Really very lucky.

OP puts breaker bar on wrong side , hits starter with juice and knocks himself out cold with breaker bar ..

Got the head of the bolt cherry red and it broke loose. I forget that heat is your friend.

Thanks Bruce.
