80 Row cold start fuel issue?

First off thanks for the help.

Trying to determine where to continue troubleshooting a no start issue. Believe the issue lies somewhere in the fuel system.

Background:
A couple of months ago the car started to exhibit a small whine upon decel, in gear only when letting off the gas. The last week or so the whine grew louder and the day before the no start the whine was noticeable when in gear and off or on gas. Two days after this the car wouldn't start.

I originally thought it would be a faulty decel valve which could be plugged or replaced. Now I'm wondering if it could be a blocked fuel filter or other component.

No start video
As you can see everything cranks and car turns over, just doesn't catch.

Already tried popping the clutch down a hill, reason for the rope to pull the car out of the garage.
Confirmed spark at the plugs. Checked airbox, CDI is new rebuild from PO, confirmed fuel into the distributor.

My next steps are going to be fuel pressure into the FD. Is there anything else I should be looking for next?

Try starter fluid, to see if that will keep the car on for a bit. This could confirm your fuel starvation as culprit

Thanks, I'll read through the additional post, also read the common start issues sticky and the Bentley manual. I'll try the starter fluid later today.

Read through a lot of the CIS material, and used carb fluid. The car will start with the carb fluid in the intake system and run until it runs out of fuel. It does not start or run with the FP relay bypass. Also figured out I don't actually have a decel valve on the car at all!
I have to run down a fuel pressure kit, however does anyone have any tricks for removing the fuel line connections. I've sprayed pb penatrent for the past three days and tried to remove the return line connection after the T without any luck.

WUR blocked?
Get you gauge and check fuel pressures.

Lift up on the sensor plate to get fuel flow through the system. If you do not hear the fuel pump, you know your culprit.

Pop out a fuel injector and put it in a jar to collect fuel with line attached.
Turn ignition on and then lift the air metering plate to see if fuel is flowing out of the injector.

When you say turn ignition to on, you mean to the on where the gauge lights turn correct? The next rotation of the turn would be to the start position? Do I need to do the fuel pump relay bypass or not for this step?

Yes turn to the on position.
No need to bypass the relay as when you lift the air metering plate the pump will turn on.

meichten,

Do yourself a favor by finding time to read DKLever48's posts about FP relay. Everything you need to know and understand about its operation was broadly discussed in it. Instead of repeating verbatim the procedures, reading the posts would be more suitable in your case. It is very informative and will guide you how the test and analysis are performed by DIYer's like ourselves. Keep us posted.

Completed the FP and injector test.

FP kicks on without issue, however empty bottle, so no fuel to the injector.

Wreckah The whine was coming from the engine bay, like a high pitched whistle.

In the absence of a fuel gauge.......

meichten,

A running FP means nothing except that the motor is turning. You need to know the delivery pressure or volumetric flow of said pump. In the absence of a fuel pressure gauge, measure the flow rate of the FP. A flow rate of 1 liter (min.) per 30 sec. would be sufficient to generate the required system pressure.

If the FP is good and running, and the system fuel pressure is too low, you won't be able to deliver atomized fuel through the injector/s. So it is mandatory to have a fuel gauge kit available to have a meaningful troubleshooting in any fuel injection system. Without one, there are too many unknown variables.

So, no fuel flowing from removed injector with the fuel pump running and ignition to run position while you lifted the air metering plate?

Get a gauge on there and start testing.

Was until a few minutes ago, just cleared a clog at the T on the return and now I do get fuel out of the injector, however still no start. Off to store for gauge.

System pressure looks about right per Bentley.

Control pressure looks good and in range.

I do also hear a high pitched whine around the back of the FD sporadically while running the test.

Got it started running ruff

GOT IT STARTED!!!

First put 5 gallons BP 91 in the tank to add to the other five.

Wasn't getting a good voltage reading at the coil, replaced that and the battery post negative cable.

Coil

The car now starts, runs really rough and no power. Running video

Replaced spark plugs

Searching the forums for no power issues for next steps now.
