Inner door pull is limp. Question

So I noticed last night that I couldn't open the passenger door from the inside. The inner handle was attached to the pull rod but "too soft" when the door is locked and unlocked feels the same when you pull it. No resistance.

So I pulled the door card off and noticed that everything was intact but the cable that goes along the door is loose. Is there a way to adjust it or tighten it up? It connected at both ends but kinda sags down with little resistance.
Believe it's #26 in diagram.

Note: it was also out of the #28, I snapped it back in there. Didn't do much

If we are talking about the same item you can remove and tighten the slack and install

Yes, I'm trying to figure out how to adjust the Bowden cable so it's more tight

The cable spring tightness can also be adjusted by moving the holder at the rear of the cable. It is held by these two bolts

Slide forward to increase tension and retighten bolts
I know that the earlier cars also had a helper spring at the front pivot (#29 on the diagram) which stretches and attaches to the inner door body. If your pivot has a tiny hole on one of the arms, then you are missing this spring.
Hope this helps.

Here is a pivot arm for a '78 with the helper spring. Note the little holes that the spring attaches to. It is interchangeable left or right hense the two holes.

Part number

Well, I moved the rear bolts to the front position(they were all the way in the back) That certainly helped, but then I noticed the front plastic cable retainer is Brocken. I think with the new adjustment and if the cable is tightly in place in the plastic retainer, it should work fine.

Does anyone have a part number? #27 on diagram

Same thing happened to my 83 sc, drivers door. If you look in the bottom of the door you will find the broken part of the clip. You have to replace the plastic clip and be very careful to put the correct bolt back in. If the bolt is too long it will break the clip. I got one for $5 from the porsche recycle guys

Buy several and replace them all.

Yes, very common. Remember that if this happens suddenly it is not a case of adjusting slack - loosening happens over time. Sudden changes are caused by something breaking or coming undone. Be very observant of how that cable and sheath run - if this item falls out of its routing you may think you need to re-adjust when in fact you just need to set it back into the correct channels / mounting points.

I have a few extras of these white plastic snap pieces. The "legs" break on them over time and then you need to replace. I'd clean and re-grease the regulator while you are in there and I believe there is a tech bulletin about plugging holes to reduce road noise, etc.

One last question, the cable itself seems to bow out between the two support brackets.

Is that normal?

Well, I put everything back together. The door opens and closes but I'm not happy with the play in the door handle pull. When I pull it and open the door it does return to its original position as crisp as it should. I sometimes have to push it to get the door to lock.

Any suggestions?
