Driver side mirror fell out!
Help guys!
Was cruising home from my daughter's basketball game this afternoon and the glass from the driver side mirror just fell out. The mirror itself is still there, but the glass is just gone. As I was doing 50+mph, no chance to even go back and look for it. I've read my Bentley about taking the mirror off - no luck. Can't seem to find the mystical locking ring in the back of the mirror. What's the trick? ![]() And does anyone have a spare mirror??

Steve, I had that happen to me a few years back when I owned an 84. I was driving on a crappy road and the glass just departed the car, hitting and scratching my window as it did. I seem to remember that the backing plate for the mirror just pops out. It was held in place on the motor by prongs. The new mirror just snaps back in.

I had the same thing happen while zipping around the track at Portland International - PCA DE event. I glanced out at the mirror and couldn't see behind me, but noticed the mirror glass just dangling by it's lower edge, back-side to me, flapping in the breeze. I reached out and pulled it inside without actually going off track!
I simply glued it back on when I got home. Truly a stroke of luck. I'm really surprised that the adhesive failed on the back of the mirror. This makes three of us - anyone else have this problem? |

Yes, mine did the same thing! Except mine came loose everywhere except a strip across the top. Whenever I accelerated, if I looked in the mirror, I was looking at the sky! I just glued it back on with 3m weather strip adhesive.

My mirror did the same thing. A local glass company cut a new mirror for $5. A little Automotive Goop glued it into the plastic frame.
Steve, the mirror frame on my 86 is held on by 3 or 4 plugs and just pulled out. The heater wires also just pull off. Tim |

Thanks Tim - turns out my '85 is the same 3 or 4 plugs - another Bentley mistake, as I found.
Drove over to EASY the other day and Spencer not only had one, he installed it right then and there - really made my day! Happy New Year to all and best for 2003!
