Post Lemke Oil Cooler: NE1 heard of it?

I came across a "factory" style oil cooler that supposedly has OEM fitment, but was curious if anyone out there had heard of an oil cooler by a manufacturer of Lemke?

Any light to shed on this would be helpful.

Lemke coolers were more commonly marketed as Turbotrol coolers. they are rugged and provide great cooling for up to at least 3 liter engines.

Yes, that is correct, it is a Turbotrol cooler.

How is their build quality?

How is their fitment?

thanks,

chris

I use a Lemke under fender. IMHO it appears noticably stronger than stock P. I ran on Calif HY 10 in 112deg. desert heat in 5th gear at 3,600- 4,000 rpm. for hours. My eng. temp. was 20deg. warmer than 40deg. winter driving at 3,200 rpm. They have a spiral cut in inside of tubes that is suposed to keep oil spinning, therefore preventing a boundary layer of oil on tubes that insulates hot oil from cooling. IMHO I wouldn't consider a frail stock oil cooler.

I replaced the oem trombone on my '76 Carrera 3.0 with the turbotrol. No more oil temp problems, ever. They are rugged, not in need of the shields which the radiator types need for protection from wheel debris.

I'll sound off in the other direction. After my engine swap, I installed a single Carrera cooler. Then, briefly, I swapped a turbatrol in its place, and my temps were worse by about 10-15 degrees. It wasn't until I plumbed the Carrera cooler in with the turbatrol -- and did a lot of ducting -- that things came under control. I'd guess the turbatrol is better than any Porsche model up to the Carrera cooler, but inferior (at least in terms of cooling capacity) to the Carrera, 964 and 993 coolers.

Jack, the turbotrol didn't cool my 3.6 either. Reason is the 3.6 has no engine mounted cooler. For at least a 3 liter it will be fine! Certainly better than a trombone thermally, much more rugged than the factory fender coolers mechanicly.
