Well after receiving the new drivers side door handle I decided to open my 101 Projects and get to work installing it. Taking the interior off the door was simple and I took my time as to not scratch or tear any of the leather items. Once I got everything removed and i had access to the inner workings of the door was when I saw the first complication.
The inside of the locking mechanism on the door handle had a wire going to it. The wire was run under the frame of the window track so even though I could disconnect it from the solenoid looking thing, I could not get it under the window track so I decided to cut it and then splice it later (it turns out there are 3 wires under the white covering..). Once I got the handle off the car I noticed the wire led to what looked like the retaining clip for the tumblers on the door lock. Not wanting to mess any of that up I decided it would be easier to take the trigger mecahnism (the thing you squeeze to open the door) off the new handle and reuse the old handle. Once I had that done and the door handle installed, wires spliced back together, the door woudl not lock while open. Once closed it would lock and work just fine. Is this the way Porsche desinged it? Can you lock your drivers door with it open? The passenger door locks and unlocks when open, but the drivers will not.. When the car is started it locks both doors automatically and when turned off both doors unlock automatically. My question is that when the doors are locked the central locking light turns bright red like it is suppossed to. When I turn the knob to lock or unlock the drivers door, it unlocks or locks the passenger door, but now pressing the central locking button does nothing? Could there be a short in the central locking button somewhere? The car does have an aftermarket keyless entry system and alarm, and the plunger that moved teh door locks up and down had 964. part numbers on it which I found interesting. Sorry for the long Post, but if anyone else is thinking of doing this repair, I can maybe help.. Have a safe holidays! Bill ![]() |
