Any Good Ideas for Hanging Wheels in Garage?
I'm looking for some ideas for hanging a few sets of wheels in my garage. I suppose I could just put up in the attic but since they look nice (Fuchs, ClubSports, and Phone Dials) I thought I would hang them on the walls. However, I am having difficulty figuring out a good way to hang them that doesn't hurt the wheel of totally destroy my walls. None of these wheels have tires. I was thinking of a 2x4 with strong dowels for each set and then bolting the 2x4 to the wall.
If you have any pictures of your setup, I'd appreciate it. I have a basic 2 car garage; nothing fancy. |

Bungee cords from the rafters, low budget.

I have these overly priced bars. Originally purchased from Griots.

I have the same bars as above. They fit my garage layout better than the big rack depicted in others' posts. It was the cheapest wall rack solution (other than home built) that I could find. My penny-pinching memory seems to recall that they were quite a bit cheaper when I bought them from Griot's about 10 years ago.

The only thing I do not like about the Tire Rack system is the sharp, pointy corners. I am sure I would end up whacking my head on them at some point. (old man)

I bought an aluminum setup like you would mount in an enclosed trailer. Its setup to be a folding unit but i never fold it. Paid around $40.

I saw a photo here the other week posted by a Pelican who used his Yakima roof rack and some rope to hang his wheel/tire sets from the ceiling. Clever!

I used a chunk of stair railing, some rope to suspend it each end and the middle, and a block and tackle for the one end where I pull the wheels off.
The reason for the third hanger in the middle is so you can support it as pull off one wheel without having to support the whole thing. The middle rope I made a loop with a snap link at the end so it can be released to move a wheel from the fixed hanging side to the removable side. Cost was less then $20 for all of it.

I like these from Amazon. Well made and fold flat to the wall when not in use. And they're $45...

If you were displaying just one wheel, that's pretty light & I think you could use electrical floor flanges and threaded conduit pipe to make your own posts to hang each one on the post.
![]() I did the electrical conduit setup to hang a heavy wood ship's steering wheel on the wall. But if you want to stack them, that's way too much leverage on the flange. I would buy inexpensive wheel racks like the guys pictured. I got two of them from ECS Tuning and they're a good deal at $60 each https://www.ecstuning.com/Search/SiteSearch/Wheel_Rack/ES2719305/ I also made one years ago before I got the ECS racks. But when you consider the price of the store-bought rack vs. your time spent making one, it makes good sense to most guys to buy it somewhere. Only reason I made my own is because I already had pretty much all of the materials I needed on hand. Just had to buy some light duty chain & a couple of turnbuckles to complete the rack "design." A design which was pretty rough & I don't think it'd pass a structural test.. ![]() ![]() ![]()

I have a Panoz GT1 rim hanging from my wall with one of these. Works very well.
