You call that a muffler? Now THIS is a muffler!

This is what happens when i get input on muffler design. Similar to the iroc spacing, and kind of like dansk pea shooters... But a hybrid of both. Very cool internals. Apparently a "no drone" design, and I am pretty sure it will work.

This summer I will put this in a head to head dyno with my dansk sport dual out which has an excellent reputation on the dyno.. I will share specifics here.

The muffler is by turbo thomas in the uk, (turbothomas.com) and this specific case design allows For street, sport, and race style internals depending on your needs. He does mostly custom work so it was fun to work out the design with him based on my goals and needs.

He is also making me custom equal length long tube headers with heat to replace my ssi's. My ssi setup is making big power with my 3.4, but dogma is that 1.5id will give more across the powerband. We will see. The custom heater boxes are holding that build up.

Well i added weight with the 12 inch tips, but it should be in the 15-20lbs region. I bet closer to 20, i will weigh it when in my hands. It has heft to it because it has complex internals, not just a noise can with a few baffles. It Has 7-10 hours of work in it easy.

Tip spacing is 25inches fyi for an idea of size.

Nice, I thought our OEM mufflers were Stainless Steel, but yesterday, I discovered they are plain steel as a magnet easily stuck to it, found so many rust rot spots, Welded her right up but will be looking into a replacement.

Does he make 1i1o versions?

These are stainless, internals included. And he makes a 1 in one out muffler... He will make anything you like really.

Fine by me, but I am used to paying for shipping from the us to canada. I am on the atlantic coast, so prices are similar. I guess it depends on how fast you want it, and where you live.

I was thinking more scraping and inclines, especially on a low car. But i figured go long, cut short as desired/needed. The reverse is harder.

And i fricking love the long pipes and need to try them out. I might have them bevel cut to minimize road scraping, and maximize impaling, mad max style. Don't worry, purists, no crazy angles. My car gives purists nightmares anyway...

I think Richard (turbo) Thomas said it best... "Do you want some tailpipes to go with your tailpipes?"

Do longer exit pipes have any performance benefits over shorter ones? I have thought that the ones on my 2i2o Dansk sport could do with with a trim.

Nope, I was sticker shocked enough. At first glance I thought, hey that is reasonable until I realized it was in British pounds

Consiter yourself lucky. Looking at us dansk prices in stainless it is 1000-1300$ us plus shipping to canada variable by model. Some shops sell a bit lower. So i call it a bit of a deal for something custom vs importing from the us. But they nail us hard for everything living up north. Not cheap to love classic cars when you live in Canada. Especially when our dollar was reciently under 70cents us to a dollar!!!

Heck, us folks get a lot of free shipping from our host... Canada... Not so much.

The longer the exit pipe the quieter. The larger diameter the exit tubes the louder. AHIK.

There could also be some changes in resonances as well. Exit pipes probably don't have much affect on power.

FWIW, without hijacking, I have a Dansk sport, two in one out that I added a second pipe to. Two larger diameter exit pipes than standard. I love everything about it but it weighs 24lbs.

My search for a lightweight muffler with reasonable sound and power continues.....

Sound wise, TT says this leans to the higher frequency. I can report back. He also said that some of his internal designs can actually reduce sound very well.... For some, too much. We will see, I kind of like the volume of my ssi's and dansk sport so that is my goal and I let him know. Thus i went with his "sport" internals as opposed to street or race. Part of the package includes a removable cap for one pipe... So if it is a screamer, i cap one for the street.

Long pipes push the exit of sound further away also... And any exhaust soot.

And like trackrash, light, power, sound, are my goals also. Light and cheap... Well sadly, you should start asking what is missing when things get very light. The dansk sport i have is great, but I want lighter, and I love this style of muffler. Sadly, dansk does not make a similar style in stainless... A must for me. Thus custom.

I also went with his custom headers vs the established b&b headers. For the price, in canada it was a wash, so i went for something different.
