Compressor oil.
^^^^^
I used 8oz. But, I also installed new barrier hoses, and a new Pro-Cooler. And, was advised by the source that there was no oil in the compressor. Gerry

Assuming.....
If you are just replacing a compressor, 2-3 oz would be sufficient. However, if you replaced other items you'd need more. The entire system runs with 5-6 oz. Too little oil and there is a risk of damaging the compressor. Too much oil and the evaporator core becomes saturated and reduces heat transfer. If you purchased a new compressor or rebuilt compressor there could be oil already in it, and how much is always a guess. So, you dump that oil out by removing any plates or caps on the manifold or compressor, turn the compressor with those open ports facing down over a large coffee empty clean coffee can. Turn the outer clutch hub several times in each direction, tilt the compressor nose to back back to nose until it stops dripping out. Properly dispose of the oil and can. Then start off fresh.

So what is the best way to put oil in a new system? Insert it in the high side of the compressor?

An ac technician would inject it, or you could pour the oil in the empty compressor, Mount it on the engine, attach your hose lines and rotate the outer clutch hub a dozen messed
