Ebay Engine Yoke

Hi,

Anyone use these? I have one I bought a long time ago, but I am not sure I would trust it with my 3.6. Do they work? I do not want to damage the engine in any way. Thanks for any help.

Yes I grabbed mine from eBay was about $150 for it. When I got it I inspected the welds to make sure they penetrated properly and everything seemed good. I put my engine up on the stand with it and used it for 6 months with no issue.

Thanks for the reply. Was it a 3.6? There in not much weight difference.

I am reluctant to use it.

Excellent concern regarding the heavy 3.6 vs say a 2.0.
There's several posting with some difficulty with eBay p201. One that I can remember is that it will not allow one to remove the oil cooler while its connected to the engine. You would have to drop engine off the engine stand to remove, then hook up again.
I bought a new Baum 5 arm just to address the same concern.

If you are worried buy Pelican's....geez, you own a Porsche not a Chevy. Spend the extra bucks!

Or get this one, $145. http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/ksearch/pel_search_2014.cgi?SUPERCAT_FLAG=Y&make=POR&Context_make=&please_wait=N&LastVisited_input=911M&Previous_Section=&forumid=&threadid=&command=DWsearch&description=engine+yoke&I1.x=0&I1.y=0

Joe Bob - I like the ring adapter. It looks like many have used it. It should fit my stand.

As for the adapter I have, I cant see any evidence of "failure" by its users. However, I may have missed it in my search. Mine does not have the machined ridge on it.

As I have not used one before, I have a silly question. Am I removing the engine to transmission mating studs?

I used the same one for my 2.7, It was very sturdy and seemed like it could handle quite a bit more weight.

That is the exact same. Thanks for the reply. What bolts did you use? Looks like I have to pull the studs.

I now see that it does not fit my engine stand. I could get steel tubing to extend it, however, might be easier to just replace and sell the one I have.

My engine stand was from Harbor Freight and the P201 fit perfectly. As far as the bolts, I don't remember exactly what I used but I'm pretty sure I just bought a set of metric bolts that fit.

What is the diameter of the mounting tube?

build a box 2'x2'x1' fill with concrete and put a hook in it and hang it on the yoke on a engine stand, bounce it up and down every way you can. the weight should be around 500+ pounds. that should rate your stand. Put a load test sticker on the stand with a yearly inspection due date, LOL

The real solution is to either make the concrete weights and anual stickers, or get one that I am comfortable using.

No, you use the studs that are on the engine.

These discussions on the engine mounting yoke are fairly amusing. You just buy the real deal P201 tool and if you're not planning to build engines for a living, just sell it upon completion of your project and get 75 or 80% of your money back instantly along with not having to store the thing. Easy. I sold my engine stand locally, would be a pain to ship and you can buy another any day of the week from Harbor Fright or Northern for cheap. Special cam tools and any else are always for sale or being searched for.
I just know I put the P201 on my engine, did the whole project in one shot and removed at the end, no drama ever. 6 years and 70k miles ago spells success!

With the acknowledgement that not all have unlimited funds...the smarter you are with dollars spent, the more you have to spend on other things...

jamesjedi- I've included a link to a post describing a 'group buy' of an aftermarket, but very well built engine yoke here: WTB: P201 not eBay Version

Priceless engine case with matching numbers, Ti con rods, $4,500 p&c set, etc. and save $250 on a cheap engine stand. Does that make ANY sense? Do you know how much it costs to go to the E.R. with broken toes? Don't pinch penny's, buy the good stuff, our host carries it.
