'82 engine oil leaks
I just recently purchased a '77 911 with an '82 3L engine in it. I've been cleaning up the engine a bit to try and track down the source of a couple oil leaks it has. It appears as though one of the primary leak sources is the connection of the oil cross over pipe to the driver's side of the engine.
![]() The other primary leak is the connection of the cross over pipe connects to the oil line that runs to the external thermostat. The picture shows this area after cleaning but after a good drive this connection is definitely something I need to address. ![]() What experience have others had with leaks at these locations? Are there o-rings at any of these connections that need to be replaced? Are the fittings themselves shot? I’m trying to tackle some of the major leaks all at the same time so I’m trying to figure out if I need to go as far as removing the heat exchangers and potentially replacing some of the oil return tubes that might be leaking as well. It would be great to hear of others’ experiences with similar issues. Thanks |
