Question Which type of brakes do you use, street and/or track?

Just curious which type, make, model brakes you use, both street and track. And what about rotors, while we're at it?

Good thread!

I've got stock brakes in my cars (very well maintained, but stock) and am keen to upgrade the '76. I was thinking cross-drilled rotors and/or Pagid/Endless etc brakepads as per the recommendations of fellow board members that have BTDT.

Mine would be for street, with hopefully the occasional track day.

Which pad would you recommend for immediate grip, no warming up, i.e. for autocrossing?

Hi Dave,

I currently use Pagid T4114-NAP on my 911. They seem ok for regular driving and AutoX. I sent a note to Pagid, and they suggested I check out their rs4-2-1 pad.

On my SC, I use Carrera fronts/SC rears w/ Metal Master pads front & rear for both street & DE. I removed the dust shields front & back. No fade & pretty good grip, although I might go w/ Pagid Orange up front at least for next season's track days.

Stock carrera calipers and rotors. Metalmaster pads for street. I alternate between Hawk (black) and Porterfield (R4S) for the track.

Pagid Blue pads for street and autocross are an awesome setup! I switch to Pagid Orange for the track...

Factory pads for the street and Pagid Orange for the track on my 911 ('86 w/993 brakes front, 930 brakes rear) and 1989 944S2 (993 brakes front, stock rear). I use factory rotors. I ran Pagid Orange on the street for years and they work fine but can be a bit noisy (squeal) with larger brakes.

I have std carrera calipers on my 87 but will put on 964 calipers in the front one day. I have slotted front rotors and pagid orange pads all around. I use the oranges for street, autox and the track.

Trent,

I've done a total of three track days now, and all I had was standard, 'S' (aluminium) calipers and 'unknown' pads. I experienced a bit of fade, but not as much as I thought I would. I'll be fitting new rotors and pads before my first event next year, and I'll be topping up the Castrol SRS (Dot 4) racing brake fluid.

Adam, et al, tell me more about these Pagid Orange pads.

I have stock rotors and calipers with Porterfiled RS4 Carbon/Kevlar pads. AutoX, DE and street. Supplemented with SS brakes lines and front cooling ducts & Super Blue fluid. Works fine for me.

In my 930 I run 2 different pads.

I run the Pagid blues (rs4-2-1) at tracks that require less braking, and I run Pagid Oranges(not sure of the number) at harder braking tracks.

Pagid Oranges, it seems to me, require higher temps before they start working the way they should. Pagid Blues can't be used if you are going to be on the brakes hard, all the time, on a tight track circuit (AutoX not included since the speed is not quite as high).

I've melted the blues before at Carolina Motorsports Park, a tight track with probably 4-5 90 degree turns.

I agree with Pagid Blue for street and pagid Orange for track.

OE is also great for street.

Just sit down before you look at the prices for the Pagid Orange pads. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I used to swear by Pagid Orange pads, switched to hawk black/blues but have no track experience on those yet. All on brembo calipers and zimmerman cast "cross drilled" rotors. The pagids are the best pads I've ever used so far...

yeah, if Pelican doesn't carry the Pagid Blue pads, what's the best source?

Thanks,

Thanks Jack. WOW! $143 a pair. Do you just swap them in for track days and back to blues for street driving? How long can they be expected to last under different driving conditions?

I deleted my post because I did a search and it looks like Pelican might sell Pagid pads.

To answer your question, though, yes, I swap them out for track days. They make too much noise, otherwise, and they need to be warmed up in order to work effectively. There's no way to do that in street driving.
