Lightbulb 3.2 Anti-Thermo Valve 930-207-231-00 and related Vacuum Hoses

Okay Fellas,

I learned something today. I love it!

So while waiting for my Thermo Valve from our host, I discovered my 30+ year old valve is actually working ( placed in freezer, BINGO valve opened ) and I had the "U" hose in the wrong position and inadvertently created a vacuum leak...Doh!

If you look closely, the cap has divets and the tab has a hole and grooves to receive the cap.

So as the title suggests, this thermo-valve actually works the opposite "anti" of what one would expect. It is constantly closed and only when temps reach below 50F (10C ) will the internal valve open and allow heated air via AAV/PCV from the Oil Tank and with the cap Engine Compartment air, this part surprised me

If you hear your AAV buzzing it is probably because engine cold temp was below 50F degrees. Buzzing could mean inner diaphram has torn, the plastic one are superceded with a metal one now. Caveat, the nipple sizes on the updated ones are smaller, thanks PAG!

So for future reference:

Here is how the two lines are connected:

"U" vacuum line comes out of the Throttle body upper metal nipple via #2 size hose to the diagonal nipple on the (anti-) thermo valve.

The other long hose ( OEM is fiber/cloth wrapped ) goes out the perpendicular blue shrouded nipple to the AAV. That blue tab on the side is actually a fixed vent. So it takes in Engine Compartment air and the Heated air from the oil tank via the AAV/PCV. Purpose: to keep TB from freezing up . Not a worry here in Cali

Pic credits go to the original Pelican/s that posted it , we thank you!

So now I have an extra valve , I am ready to re-install my engine & gear box to test my 964 Cams install and timing, wish me ruck!

J

Interesting freezer trick Brother Jim. If TV is constantly closed and only opens below 10 degrees C... engines in constantly warmer climes have no need for TV. Or... does it serve some other purpose/system?

Good ruck on cams.

Nope not at all, only opens below 50 degrees F to keep the TB from freezing up.
