RSR High power H1's ???

I spotted these on ebay & have never seen/heard of any like these before:

The seller states: This is a pair of Porsche Carrera RSR endurance racing high power Hella Headlights, they were manufactured back in the early 1970s and used for night racing, very rare, very desirable.

Anyone know anything more about these headlamps ?

If they are single bulb units, as it appears in the picture, I do not see how they could be H1's. H1 lights have two separate bulbs, one for low and one for high.

Wonder if these are H4 assy's with a clear lens for racing?

The attachment screws are not like Porsche lights. I don't see how the trim rings wil fit correctly with the srew down there.

Cool

Have some of the VW guys take a look at this one.

They don't look like H1's or H4's to me.

Good luck,
David Duffield

The tab on the bottom of the trim ring? I've seen it on VW, never on Porsche. Looks to me like somebody stuck some aircraft landing lights in a VW headlight assembly...."special stuff", right? HA! Did 356's run the lower VW style tab? I'm not sure...911's didn't.

These are now up to $560 but the reserve has not been met.
Current high bidder's id is "clubman935" so maybe these ARE rare ??

Remember, these are HELLA lamps - not Bosch H1's which have the twin bulbs/reflectors.

Anyone 'shed any more light' (!) on these?

They look alot like the headlights on my '59 bus--- the lens is the same, but I've got 2 bulbs? That tab is used on early VW's and 356's to mount to the body

"H1" is just a type of bulb. H1 driving lights don't have two bulbs because they don't have high and low beams. This looks like a driving lamp that fits in the stock headlight location (and presumably uses an H1 bulb). Cool!

With the tab down there, it will NOT fit correctly on a 911 headlight bucket.
