911t oil light flashing/ticking

Hello all,

I have a 1972 911T and the oil light on the gage is flashing and also making a ticking sound. This happens from when I start the engine and continues when I drive. There is nothing wrong with the oil level as I check the level routinely by dip stick and also on the oil fill level gage.

This has been happening for for a few years now. I know it's probably just a short and I know nothing about wiring in cars. Today I got fed up so I just disconnected the wire that leads to the light behind the gage.

Is this ok if I diligently keep an eye on the oil level? Should I be worried? Any ideas on an easy fix?

Thank you all in advance,
Joe

the oil light is also for the hand brake. You have a problem with that part of the circuit. The hand brake switch is at the base of the hb lever

should be an adjustment screw below the handbrake that adjusts the metal contacts to activate the dash light. You might have to peer closely along side the drivers seat to see it and even remove the seat to adjust it. It can be adjusted up or down. I have this on my 1973.5T so I would think it was the same for the 72. Take a look with the handbrake in the up position.
Let us know if that solves the problem.

If the handbrake checks out, it could also have something to do with the safety switch on the M/C. I think when activated, it goes to ground so you may have an intermittent short down there somewhere.

Pull the wire off the safety switch on the master cylinder. You don't need it to tell you the brakes are funky, you'll know when that happens. Turn all the way right and you can see the wire on the master cyl through the left wheel well, with a flashlight. Grab it with needlenose pliers.

Much appreciated folks. Never knew that light was a multipurpose and of all things a parking brake! Will dive into it next weekend.

Cheers,
Joe
