914 speedometer question
changing transaxles in my 77 911 and the one that I got has a mechanical speedometer hookup instead of the electric one and wanted to know if the 914 speedometer will work for my 911? Looking for a cheap replacement as I have to buy a cable as well and 914 speedos are abundant. Also will the 911 915 mechanical speedometer cable fit the 914 threaded insert on the back? Thanks for the help.

I don't think it will work. I put a 914 speedo in my 911 a few year back and I was always at 150 mph at highway speeds. seems like they would be the same but their not.

Call Palo Alto Speedometer and ask. They would know and also know what it takes if it is not directly compatible.

You are correct. 914 speedos will not work properly in 911 cars. I did some research on this. I did call Palo Alto and for approx $195 they can redo a 914 speedo and make it a 911 speedo. Hope this helps for others in the same boat and thanks guys for chiming in.
