Oil Pressure

1984 911 3.2 Carrera, 124,000 miles.

I've noticed when I accelerate, the Druck oil pressure gauge goes up to 3 at 3,000 RPM, but goes no further when up to 4 or 5,000 RPM.

I change the oil every 3,000 miles, am running 20W-50 Valvoline, Mahle OC-54 filter.

The oil light does not come on, there are no unusual engine noises.

The engine is running a bit hotter than usual in hotter outdoor temps. It used to stay at the first white block on the temp gauge, now running between the white blocks. I also noticed a gurgling noise near the oil tank when I started the car at the last oil change, but it went away after 10 seconds or so. Checking around after stopping the car, the filter and the oil cooler up front are hot.

I'm wondering if
1.) oil pump is heading south.
2.) Are there any screens in there that could plug up
3.) Thermostat to internal oil cooler stuck
4.) Calibration on sensor is going bad

I'm assuming the first thing I should do is remove the sensor and check the oil pressure with a gauge ? Or something else? Thanks

I would for sure start with the sender and the gauge. That is the cheapest option.

If you have access to a spare gauge and/or sender, either of those would make it easy to test. Or get a mechanical oil pressure gauge and an adapter to put it where your oil pressure sender goes, and verify oil pressure that way. There are a couple threads on the form discussing how to do this.

+1 Druck Sender unit.

I had the same issue, swapped, I have proper pressure reading at the gauge.

Best to do a partial drop to remove the AC mounitng bracket for easier access to the fitments, get all new orings and might as well replace the cam oil line while it is open.

Also clean and polish the electrical connectors.

Big parts don't break on 911's.
