Intermittent? Weber Float Issue

I have a 2.2 L with Webers. I picked it up from the shop, where I started it warm. It started as usual. Drove it about 5 miles, and opened the hood to check the oil. Had fuel dripping off one carb, and it was pretty wet. Got a fire extinguisher. Drove it to my home, about 10 miles, and checked it again. No leakage. If I had only seen this, I would have no hint of any problem.

Car was running great, idling better than normal.

The area under where it was dripping was not conclusive to have had dripping previously. although not sure of this.

Any comments on floats just hanging up?

Sounds like a float sticking. Be sure to check fuel pressure at inlet to carbs, it should be 3.5 psi but at least between 3 and 4 psi. The tabs on the floats where the needle valves touch will "divot" with time & if needles or floats are swapped in their positions, such as in a rebuild then the relationship between needle valve & float are changed. This can cause a side-loading issue at the tip of the needle which will upset its ability to close. The divot can be removed by peening the back side of the tab. Also, the tab should be perpendicular to the needle valve when running. There is a mechanical check you can make to verify this, contact me via my email and I can provide info for that check.

Fuel boiling (percolation) is not likely since running the engine will cool the carburetors & intake manifolds, after 5 miles running the fuel would be quite cool in the Webers.

One more thing, I doubt your top covers have been modified for "anti-percolation". If so then your low speed performance would be fouled due to excess fuel from a full float bowl enriching the idle circuit(s) supplied from that bowl.
