procedure for clutch cable adjustment 915
Hi,
I have some problems adjusting the clutch cable on a 1982 3.0 SC 911 (Targa). I did follow the guidelines as described in Wayne Dempsey's handbook, but still no luck. See picture: I did the adjustment with the spring turned to the right side (near heatexchanger). So far so good. But when I engage the clutch pedal afterwards, it will never go back to that right position. Also, the clearance of 1 mm is completely changed. Thanks for some help/guidelines bas ![]() |

You have to do this several times to compensate for slop on the TOB to Fork, if worn.

Is this just an adjustment or have you replaced any parts. Cable for instance?
Just to be clear the 1.2mm adjustment is made with the bolt and lock nut. The 1mm adjustment is made with the 2 nuts on the clutch cable as seen in this picture ![]()

Also, make sure that the cable sheath is properly seated at the back wall of the tunnel. Been there myself.

Hi,
Thanks all of you. I executed the procedure a couple of times. Apparently, things need to 'find their way' a bit. 3rd time it succeeded. Bas |

Outstanding! After 100 miles or so, check again. Just to make sure all is good.

Hi,
Still no luck ... I thought I adjusted it ok. The procedure 1.2mm (loose cable) and 1 mm (cable attached, nuts adjusted) is OK, but the travel range is not ok. It should be 25 +/-0.5mm but it appears to be something like 23mm . I did not find anything beneath the wooden plate (where the pedals are). The clutch pedal is completely kicked down - I can't physically press it furter to increase the range... Any advice? thanks in advance Bas |

Possibly a cracked release fork. I struggled to adjust my clutch until my fork let go. New fork and now a clutch adjustment is easy and holds.

^^^Yep, chances are very good that the OPs problem is either, 1) internal at the clutch, or 2) at the pedal assembly.

I just did this job a few weeks ago and also couldn't get the right final set up. After reading many threads I saw that a new cable install sometimes is set too long and the proposed distance at the clevis needs to be shortened. If there is a new cable involved I would look into this. Once I did this everything worked great. Final travel adjustment at the floorboard was needed too.
Good luck
