What's this button for?

It's on the dash of my '87. Since it's a convertible, it does not have rear wiper. I can turn the knob left and right but nothing moves.

use it in conjunction with your wiper stalk so you can fine tune the speed

Yep. Intermittent wiper speed adjustment. Mine doesn't work, but I heard if you pop outthe clock, there is a fuseorsomethingsimilar back there that you can clean the contacts with alcohol (not beer), and it will start wrking again. I haven't bothered, since mine doesn't see rain too often. One of these days....

That's the littel switch that drove me nuts when I first detailed my dash and ended up having the wipers run when I was finished.

You can actually use that switch without turning the wipers on at the stalk. The knob rotates clockwise - the further you turn it, the longer the delay. Handiest device evar.

Thats the little gizmo that folds your headlights down so the 50mm gun comes out so you can shoot the a$$ in front of you thats giving you a hard time, you do of course know that those two levers beside your emergency brake opens a door that raises your rocket lounchers out of the roof, If only 007 would have driven a Porsche, i gotta stop watching his movies, Kevin

Your Porsches are more beautifully engineered than you think, it seems. Stalk action overrides my intermittent system. With the stalk switch off, turning the button activates the intermittent wiper feature. Its delay gets as long as a couple of minutes. Works better than any other system I have seen.

And while we are on the subject of simplicity....my cruise system is also the simplest I have seen.

I'm tired if hearing about how complicated and unreliable my car is. It is neither.

i agree superman, in my many trips i've taken (in all different types of weather) i've found the 911 to be very freindly as far as function and comfort goes, i've found that the 3+ hour long trips i regularly take in it leave me refreshed, compared to the other cars i own/owned.

I have to say the HVAC system (s) on my 88 are hardly intuitive. The controls are located in THREE separate places...hardly what I'd call well thought designed. More of an afterthought or kluge (sp?).

Superman, you are correct (but you didn't need me to tell you that ). The cruise kicks butt, and the wipers work well. The heat is easily worked with the two levers and the knob, you don't even have to take your eyes or attention off of driving, but in most modern cars you do because the dash is set up like a computer keyboard, or even better like the new icontrol or whatever they call the new BMW dash controls.

And, yes while the HVAC controls are not intuitive, they work really well once you understand them. They are extremely adjustable.
