Loose ball joint in the control arm
Interesting finding. My "bad" ball joint turned out to be loose fit between the ball joint and the control arm. Lock plate and cotter pin correctly installed. But the big castle nut was easy to remove.
Odd. Ever happen to you? New ball joints going in anyway.... |

With the lock plate and cotter pin still in place about all it could be was improper installation.

That's interesting. Makes me want to check mine again (just because now I have to).
![]() Perhaps it wasn't seated properly/fully when the castle nut was torqued, and then once it did seat, there was a gap. This is why it's always recommended to check suspension work after a gas tank or two. Hope you get it sorted and let us know what the issue was.

It may have been just a little loose many years ago. The wear accelerates and gets looser faster. This summer it suddenly felt really bad. As if it wore out in a few months. Very strange.
