Angry I did a dumb thing yesterday

Well I have been off work for aprox. 2 weeks for the holiday so I have been doing some stuff on my 83SC,I decided to take off the door pockets because they were both split where the one screw mounts them by the handle.I decided to glue a thin piece of aluminum over the area that was cracked to strengthen the area and all went well.I did the passenger side first and then the drivers side,I only have so many C clamps. While the drivers side was clamped I decided to put the passenger side in the sun to help cure the adhesive,I couldn't put it on the ground,oh no I had to set it on the rear bumper of the Porsche, get the picture. After a couple of hours I decide to go and look for a couple of Porsche calendars for work, and sure enough I drive away with the door pocket on the back of the car!!! I had a feeling something was not right but kept on driving, about 1 hour later it hit me-oh sh_t!Need less to say,I back tracked my route and found the door pocket,it now looks like a beavers tail,it had been run over many times it seems,so now I am looking for a passenger side black door pocket, and yes I am embarrased!

I think we've all done that....think "coffee mug on roof while I get my keys" or ...anything like that.

Lotsa guts to admit that in public...but what the heck, the FOUR of us on this list don't mind

well, you could have put it down in front of the car, then driven over it, destroying the pocket and maybe crushing an oil line or two. Then you might have continued driving while spewing oil, and the engine seizes from lack of lubrication.

See? By putting it on the rear bumper you saved yourself about $10K. I think you should buy the car a few nice things from Pelican to celebrate your good fortune!

We've all done that. I lost my glass' that way, never did find them. I'm still amazed at the woman a few years back that left her baby strapped in the baby seat on the roof of her car and drove away. The baby seat finally fell off. It's a pure miracle the baby wasn't injured.

I have a new set of black OEM door pockets given to me with the car. They are still in the box. They came from Aase parts. Might as well replace both! Let me know if you're interested.

when i was building my speedster, i hung the H1s on without the screws just to eyeball them on the car, then a few days later took it around the block on it's maiden voyage. one promptly fell out and i ran over it. totalled.

Well, just last week I installed Turbo Tie Rods. I had the car up on jacks, so I removed them from the driver's side first and lowered that side, took the jack pad over to the passenger side and then did the same on that side. I took it out for a spin to experience the improvement in steering response - and it was quite different - big improvement from stock. I drove for a total of about 10 miles, some fairly spirited driving through a nearby industrial park - took a few quick turns here and there as well.

Pulled the car back into the house garage and started some cleanup on the tools that I left on my workbench, and walked around the side of the car to put something away.

There sitting (still!!!) in the passenger side jack port, was the jackpad!!!

Have you done this? Drive into your garage with a Bicycle attached to the roof rack? I have.

The bike, ruined. The rack, bent. The 1988 BMW M3 needed a new paint job for the roof.

Many years ago...........

Had an early morning disagreement with [then] wife, stormed out of the house, jumped in the Land Rover, slammed it into reverse, dumped the clutch, and BANG.....reversed the truck into my pristine BMW 3.0 CS which was parked up close, and too low to see from the Rover.

Man, I know what you feel like, and we've all done a "bonehead" maneuver like this sometime in the past. Don't sweat it; it's replaceable and minor in the big scene. You'll look back at this.... drinking a beer with the buds, and just laugh. Good luck in your quest for finding a replacement.

I did the same thing with that cardboard piece in the front trunk that covers the master cylinder. Left it on the roof of the truck, and drove off after Pomona. Turned around to retrieve it after about 150 cars had run it over...

Bike racks on roof...

yelcab1--

Several years ago I bought bike racks for my Volvo 855 and was talking about them with one of my neighbors, an avid bicyclist. He promptly walked me back to my house, opened my car door, took my garage remote and put it in the glove compartment. Seems he had done the same thing as you.

Now imagine what happens with a shark fin on top of a Suburban, going into the local Target parking garage...

And then there was the time I had opened the hood to get out my 100 Projects book and look something up. Since I was just going to take a quick peek, I verrrry gently lowered the hood, no need to latch it, I was gonna come right back, correct?

Was sitting in the drivers seat perusing the bible and became inspired to go for a spirited drive. Threw the book in the back seat and off we went. Whooo boy howdy did we have fun. Lotsa twisties!!!!!! No radar for 3 counties.

Got home and went to tuck baby in. It was only then I remembered I never did latch the hood. Must be the bump at the end of the driveway saved my ass. The safety latch had lived up to its name.

I once had a V8 Land Rover in Spain, where they had only ever sold diesels. A guy in a parking lot heard the V8 rumble and asked to look at the motor. Driving home down the motorway at about 80mph the unlatched hood stood vertical then just took off (they are designed that way). It flew some metres upwards then landed on the hard shoulder, luckily no-one was following too close.

My sister, running late for work one morning, set a small purse on the tail of her 77 930. Drove approximately 25 mile to work down the freeway at 70 - 80 mph. Discovered her mistake when she parked the car. Purse still on the tail!
