Power window motor on '88

My passenger side power window operates intermittently. If it acted up, I could manually move it a bit with the hex key tool from the toolbag then it would be okay. That trick doesn't work anymore.
I'm going to take another look at the electrics before fiddling with the motor, but my question is if I decide it needs a new motor, will I be able to R&R the motor without having to play around with the regulator mechanism?

Good question. How do you plan to repair it?

All I know is a new one is $300...

I wasn't thinking of repairing it...but whether it's repaired or replaced, it still has to be removed. Apparently, Dansk is making a replacement motor for about $140.00. Also, the motor part is the same for old '80's Volvos & Mercedes Benz if I really want to get creative...

Yes. I did this. Replace just the motor with a good takeoff. Pull door panel and it's 2 torx screws to pull it. Stick head up near speaker and you'll see it. Easy. Way easier than pulling whe whole window frame and regulator. Cost me $50.

I would suspect the door switch before the motor.

I had a similar problem on my '88. I fiddled with all sorts of switches and other issues then after about a YEAR realized the wire inside the door had kinked and would fail in a totally random way. Fixed it and has worked fine ever since...EXCEPT on very rare occasions it "locks" in the up position. IF if work it up/down a little using an allen wrench it will work fine for months at a time.

If it operates intermittently, I would think the motor's fine.
Replace the switch.

Same problem on my '88.
Spyerx-
I can see the two torx screws that hold the motor but how do you access them to pull them out? Their access is blocked.

The combined motor and transmission can be purchased new (non Porsche brand) for a pretty reasonable price so I'd be replacing the entire unit, not just the motor. Question is: will I be able to take off the entire unit without wrestling with the regulator?
