It's not hard but it does take some time. The best way is the remove the entire frame from the door so you can take it apart.

No, the door can be left in, but you need to remove the door panels. Below a comprehensive description of the work to be done.
Depending on the year screws and clips vary. Then remove the bolts for the window frame. They are situated in the front and back of the door, under the door panel and one inside the door. These bolts also take care of the correct adjustment of the window frame. When all bolts are removed, you can lift the window frame from the door. You might need to loosen the window regulator to get the frame out. To replace the seal, you need to take the frame apart. Screw/bolts are situated in the edges of the frame, some under the seal for the side window. Reassembling the frame into the door is sometimes a bit frustrating - third hand needed. Remember to adjust the frame correctly to avoid leaking around the frame. If the triangle window seal is worn, the other seals could be in a poor condition. I also would also replace the seals in the frame for the sliding side windows, the seals in the top of the door, to prevent water drooping in the door. And if you are in there: clean the inside of the door, check the drain holes in the bottom of the door, clean/regrease your locking mechanism, the same for the openers and window mechanism. Indeed, it takes some time, but is not difficult. There many threads here on the board regarding removing door panels and window frames. Read them before you start the project. Otto |
