1980 Targa seats covers

Hey guys,I have targa 1980 with bad seats, leather is so dry that is falling a part.Im thinking about buying seats covers, premade seats covers.
Can you guys tell me how big is a difference between leather and vinyl and if is worth it to spend few hundred dollars more on leather covers. Also how is your experience with a covers, are you happy with it and how hard is to install it

Good leather covers or you mean to find someone to restore seats completely?

What is your budget? My leather seats were starting to crack, but mine's a daily driver. I got some black cloth covers for $20 and kept driving. For a fair investment you could get yours totally redone by a shop.

I would like to redo it ,but I was in few shops and they all are telling me to buy a leather covers and just to install the covers
I never used those pre-made covers before,I have no idea how good they are and I know that good leather covers are going for around $1000

Sleeper, you can DIY:

Just get swatches of the leather you wish then get the kit. Originally only the cabs came with leather backs as a luxury option. I opted to do mine all leather including the back of the seat.

+1 you have very desirable seats, leather them

Not your year but you will get a good idea:

DIY Re-upholstery Front Sport Seats kit 85-89

I literally did this with one hand

If you decide you want to get something to cover the seat once you repair/fix it be sure to check out what Coverking may offer you here: 1980 Porsche 911 SC Targa - Seats, Belts & Upholstery - Page 6. We also have some options for Seat Upholstery Kits at the link as well. Good luck with the repair!

I just redid my front seats on my 77 Targa. It was my first time attempting anything like this, and although I won't say it was easy, it was achievable with some patience. I also found it really helpful to have a helper (thanks Alex) as there are times when one person can be applying pressure while the other person uses the hog ring pliers. I ended up doing one of the seats a couple times until it was just right. There are a few videos online that were helpful as well. I would feel confident doing it again. Make sure the covers you order are high quality and the correct fit for your seats. I chose vinyl and I have been pretty happy with the results,

Jon
